Opra's Stedman business partner with Armstrong Williams

Subject: Re: Your Afternoon Buzz

David Corn: Armstrong Williams acknowledged he had messed up, but he told me he was not the only conservative pundit who has taken money from the Bush gang. It's OUR Tax Money Being Used for Bush Propaganda!

Armstrong Williams: I'm Not the Only One (David Corn)

There was a very small article in the Washington Post some years ago about Armstrong Williams being sued for sexual harassment by two employees in his office. I thought, Ho Hum, so what else is new. Then I saw that the two employees were MALE. I thought that would be the end of Mr. Conservative, but I think he settled out of court, and has become more and more the popular black spokesperson for Bush and Company. I always suspected something was wrong with him when I read that his business partner was that Stedman guy that had a never-ending engagement with Oprah. I think they finally ended that farce.

13. "Dudman" Graham?
Are they still dating? Who's "bearding" who, I wonder?

And he's one of those "inspirational lecturers", too...
and an AUTHOR!

Hey, Dud-man, where you at pon YOUR 9-step plan to get a wedding band on that woman's finger? What, "You CAN'T make it happen"?

I've always thought he was a joke, but maybe he doesn't want to be addressed as "Mr. Winfrey"...

3. more about Strongarm's sexual harassment suit
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 01:48 PM by Mabus
But in 1997 he got some publicity he wished he hadn't. Armstrong was sued by a former male employee who accused him of more than 50 incidents of sexual harassment.

In a $200,000 lawsuit, Stephen Gregory alleged that Armstrong kissed him on the mouth, grabbed his buttocks and genitals, and climbed into bed with him on business trips.

He also said his former boss had told him that he loved him, but somehow that didn't make him gay. Armstrong supposedly needed affection because he wanted to stay celibate heterosexually until he got married. More at: http://home.earthlink.net/~zkkatz/page88.html

Yet in 1997, Williams was sued in a massive $200,000 50-charge sexual harassment suit for repeatedly kissing his once male trainer Stephen Gregory who he had promoted repeatedly into his talk-show staff. Gregory claimed Williams had also grabbed his buttocks and genitals and climbed into bed with him on business trips. After rebuffing him, Gregory alleged, the pundit retaliated by reducing his pay and subsequently firing him. More at: http://www.bluelemur.com/

On edit: My husband reminded me that Armstrong is a Clarence Thomas protege. In otherwords, he learned from the master.

11. Jeebus H. Christ, Williams was born in '59!
That makes him 38 YEARS OLD at the time of this suit.

A 38 YEAR OLD HETEROSEXUAL VIRGIN???

I don't sink so...

Lots of Oprah lovers here.

Not me. I don't get why so many women love her amateur-psychology TV show. She is filthy rich and *pretends* to relate to the regular folk exactly the same way Smirkaholic does.

The Daily Show showed the funniest clip of Williams....it was from CNN where he corrected the CNN guy who said something like "so you are an employee of the company that received the $240,000.." Williams interrupted him and said "that is incorrect, I am not an employee..I OWN THE COMPANY." The CNN guy was gasping and Jon said something like...

"Worst. Damage Control. Ever." :D

9. No flames but what is so hard to get?
She is filthy rich and *pretends* to relate to the regular folk exactly the same way Smirkaholic does.

Why do you assume that Oprah Winfrey "'pretends' to relate to the regular folk"? The woman isn't a Trump or a Kennedy or a Rockefeller or a Hilton- she didn't grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was poor and spent a lot of her youth growing up black in the south. I think that would leave an impression. I don't understand why anyone would assume that just because someone was able to make a lot of money that they would forget their roots and be unable to relate to "regular folks".

And why do you use the term "filthy rich" as if wealth was automatically a bad thing? I don't begrudge anyone the money they earn through their own hard work or even honest luck. I don't agree with everything she does but Oprah has donated tons of money to charity. Yes, some of her giving is publicized on her show but that brings in even more money and attention to the causes. Like it or not, many people have benefited from the information her show provides.

10. Where did I say she "forgot her roots?"
I'm not against Oprah or anyone making lots of money. But if you don't think being one of the richest women in the USA (top 5 I thought) is being "filthy rich" then you must not be familiar with how that term has historically been used. It defines those who have astronomical amounts of money, no matter how they came into possession of it.

As far as the "relate to the regular folks" thing. I have only watched parts of her show a few times and I heard her say things like:

"Don't yall just love those t-shirt sheets...do yall know what those are? Bed Bath and Beyond is my favorite store!" Give me a break. Do you really think she shops there? Or buys a sheet set that costs less than $100? I think she says things like that to "pretend" to be a regular gal so she comes across as more accessible as a talk show host. It is business and it is phony.

"I believe I can speak for the majority of women." How can she, as an extremely wealthy woman speak for the majority of women in this country who do not have the money and access she does? She can speak about her experiences past and present, but she cannot speak for the majority of women because she is one of the wealthiest people in America - who does not feel any personal pain in current economic times. She will never have to experience not being able to get her birth control prescription filled, or not having the option of abortion.

I'm glad she gives money to good causes like a lot of Americans do. But she also has a lot of bullshit psycho babbling going on in her shows. I just don't like that format (hers or any other daytime 60 minute sound-bite pass the Kleenex psycho-analysis).

I can respect her for her struggle to overcome the horrible obstacles in her life (but talking about it every chance she gets is kind of tacky) and her charity without having to like the way she runs her show.

8. Not Surprising. Oprah's not exactly a lefty.
I love it when she'll have on somebody with the and suggest that they "remodel their kitchen" or "check into a spa for a few hours" something like that as a way to deal with it, as though everybody is in a position to afford such things.

And Dr. Phil is an ass.

PS- this is not anti-Oprah. I like her just fine. I just think she's been too well-off for a bit too long and seems pretty out of touch with the way regular people have to live.
