And who says we won't have a system to steal it back from them by then? :)

13. Then you presume that not enough people voted democratic
in November. I am not buying it. Wait till they steal it in 08 again after 8 years of *.

9. What is the probability of that happening?
We have IRV here in SF for citywide races. I'd love to see it state-wide, but I'm not holding my breath. :)

12. Well, we had the good sense to at least get voluntary publicly funded
elections.

IRV has come up before, but what keeps getting it smacked down is a) costs and b) election officials who don't want the extra work.

So it depends on whether or not we can convince the public that it would be a good thing to have in place, and whether we can sell it as being worth the money. And right now, our budget is tight, just like most other states.

Still, it won't hurt to try. :)

25. They "sold" it here as a way to save money
We usually had expensive run-off elections for supervisor that not many people voted in. IRV, while complicated has probably saved SF a lot of cash. Once we have a few elections w/ IRV there should be some interesting data that you guys might be able to use to argue in favor of IRV (in terms of cost-cutting).

27. I hope so. We really need some sort of ranked voting, and IRV
is the most likely candidate at this point.

4. I always vote
At least I try to. I'll vote next year in the governor's race, in 2006 in the Congressional one and in 2008 in the Presidential one. If they have any others locally, I'll vote in those too. Actually I think in my state the vote is pretty honest, though it is a red state.

It's important not to just vote in the Presidential election.

10. Well..i agree at local and state levels..always vote, but
i, personally feel..well..so abused by what i completely believe was a fraud this time around..in november..and that i believed that my vote would actually be counted..there is much talk about the 3 million number...but also believe that if the machines can be manipulated..and were...whats 3 million..just a number. If 10,000 votes for Kerry are "inadvertently" given to Bush by error...then why not 3 million? I feel pretty much pissed off..at myself, that i believed my vote meant anything this time around. So, if nothing changes, i doubt if i will believe it will be counted next time around.

20. Course, the answer to Why not? Is always, Why?
Maybe i am just in a cynical mood today..ha!! I guess, if the vote is manipulated and if my vote doesn't count anyway, whats the point of voting? From my cynical today mood, it seems an exercise in futility...but not, certainly, how i want to feel about it all.

16. I will always vote, no matter what happens.
Regardless of whom I vote for, even if I couldn't care less about the person, I want all parties and interest groups to be absolutely aware that I exist, and that my demographic is worth fighting for.

I am also acutely conscious of the fact that people literally suffered and died so that there could be some degree of accountability of the government to the people. Yet democracy is no better than tyranny, without the active participation of an informed electorate. It would be a betrayal of everything important to me if I didn't at least try.

What's the point?
We know they have manipulated the the last 3 major elections, why would this be any different?
Not saying that I would not vote, that is if i still reside here.

22. Of course I will vote
What is important, is what we do between now and November 2008.
We must sell the liberal/progressive message better than the Reich wing does.
That is much harder considering the media but we must find ways.

If one does not vote, then one can not complain about the outcome.

23. Depends
If the systems are the same, they own our vote.

And also, I have to wait to see who the people of Iowa and New Hampshire pick. It's all said and done by the time they get to Pennsylvania.

I do love the primary! It makes so much sense today. It makes too much sense not to fix.

26. An illegitimate process needs to be delegitimized.
In other countries, when citizens protest a rigged election, they withhold their vote.

America is not so unlike other countries that casting a ballot in a rigged election will change anything.

30. Tell me who the third party candidate is.
Sorry, but if the Democratic Party keeps on the track it's currently moving down, there is no way I'll be voting for the Democrat in 2008.
