Even for those who "believe" this is a stretch.

I'm going to tuck my head between my knees and kiss my ass goodbye, just like we rehearsed in grade school.

6. But having an evacutation plan is smart. |

I mean a real one. In the case of a fire, intruder, train derailment, etc.
I make the kids practice every 6 months or so.
To simulate a hazardous situation (like fire), I blind fold them, and make them go from their beds to outside unassisted. This forces them to viualize and navigate the house without the actual visual cues. It is also fun because they are taught to slide down the stairs feet first on their belly.
We have a designated area outside where we will meet, and also a designated neighbors house if danger is present or a call needs to be made.
It may seem like overkill, but in an emergency every second is precious, and every bit of planning and practise can save lives.
I mention train derailment, because our property is directly next to train tacks.
Cheers Drifter

8. We also maintain an 'earthquake box' |
|
We have 12 gallons of water, canned/dried food, pet food, medicines/first aid stuff, blankets, radio, flashlight, batteries, etc. . It's only smart to be prepared.

7. I should write my kids' school about this. |
|
Despite my liberal convictions, they go to a Christian school and I'm fairly certain a lot partake in the BFEE kool-aid.
Might be funny to get the ball rolling at a PTO meeting.

corner of suburbia - zero. However, I do remember the duck and cover drills in grade school. The rationale for crouching beneath a desk while being vaporized by a nuke was never adequately explained.

11. Forget about a terror attack |
|
that's not happening unless Bush is planning one. I am prepared more for a blackout. Water, canned goods, flashlights, candles, matches, batteries. Beer.

I'm more worried about a skunk coming in the doggy door. For that scenario, our plan is to evacuate to the basement.
