Thread 2 on Bush's speech: analysis |
|
Starpass's thread is getting reeeaally long so I thought I'd post a new one. (I know this isn't 5 sentences long, mods, but perhaps this can be an exception :) )

The Larry King show is pretty hard on the speech |
|
Glad the analysts on CNN, even Judith Miller, are calling a lemon a lemon. They say this speech and the 87 billion dollars is a case of bad timing.
On FOX however they are figting over being first in line to polish his knob. Sean Hannity needs to get some knee pads!

7. the callers to Larry King are critical too |
|
the last caller wanted to know why all the money we found in Iraq can't be used to pay for this war. (we found $1.7 billion, we need hundreds of billions)
current caller wants to know why we can't find Bin Laden!!!!

Let's see what jut happened here.
He invoked 9/11 implying that Saddam had something to do with it.
he said that the "terrists" are in Iraq...(as opposed to Iraqis who hate the occupation.)
He said iraq is the central battleground of the war on terra...
He siad that past policies were weak and out of touch
He said all nations (especially those of Europe) will benefit from what we did in Iraq and should "pay up"!
What a steaming pile of horseshit!
I'm so fucking mad right now I can hardly remember all of what he said. Gergen didn't exactly give him a pass on his lies but didn't exactly call him a liar either.....
Somebody has to call this son-of-a-bitch on these lies!!!!!!!

2. "Knee Deep in the Big Muddy, & the Big Fool Says Push On!!" |
|
This was a fateful speech. Its significance is that it reveals the direction the cabal has chosen, even when faced with impressive evidence that they've already created a sickening "quagmire:" the hardest hard line possible. Not a bit of contrition, not a bit of flexibility -- but 110% "We were right all along, & we will spend whatever it takes, to successfully gain control of our prey in Iraq."
This means: - There is going to be a step-up in the intensity of propaganda. There will be vicious smears of ANYONE that dares to speak a word against the war. This will affect the dynamics among the Democratic candidates. - The media coverage of Powell going to the UN will seek to paint his proposals as God's Own Virtue; if the Europeans don't accept it, there will be more shrill French & German & Russian bashing. - There will be a terrible crackdown in Iraq, arresting & killing anyone who looks crosswise at American soldiers. - $87 BILLION!!! The federal budget is going to explode. The dimension of the looting of the public Treasury beggars all description.

8. He DID mention Germany |
|
He mentioned that we helped with the rebuilding of Germany and Japan after WW2, and we have "been paid 3 generations of dividends" from that help.
The bastard is trying to make the Germans look ungrateful!

He did mention Germany...and how we rebuilt them after WWII
Zidzi, he did mention the UN at least once (when begging for help, although he managed to make it sound more like a demand.)

|
we're talking Germany of the 21st century. (and I am not trying to be funny) and the heard/unheard analyisis is possibly the best and only way to look at this desperate attempt by Bush to find a silver lining in the mess that is Iraq.

... I kept picking up the Vogue on the table and thumbing through it. It happens every time he talks, I immediately lose interest and my attention drifts elsewhere. I think it's because after awhile his lies get boring. :kick:

14. Reporter on ABC said Bush wants the $87bil. for 'Pax America' . |
|
Interesting choice of words. I've only heard 'Pax America' used in the context of PNAC goals. Is the U.S. media slowly edging toward an open discussion of the PNAC stuff like Meacher did in the Guardian the other day?
