COMMENT: Prince Harry wearing a Nazi uniform will encourage racists

The Sun's front page showed the prince, with a cigarette and drink in hand, wearing a swastika armband. The newspaper said he had attended a fancy dress party in the uniform of a fascist soldier. In a statement, the prince said: "I am very sorry if I caused any offence or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologise."


"HAS Prince Harry lost all sense of reality? He will be joining the British Army in five months — the same Army that lost thousands fighting the Nazi menace. Old soldiers will be sickened when they see the young prince behaving like a drunken member of the Hitler Youth.

Jewish groups will be horrified that a member of such a privileged family is wearing this despicable emblem of evil. They will ask angry questions of the Royal Family. Where were his father and the highly-paid courtiers who advise this young man? Who let him drive out of Highgrove dressed this way?

Smoking cannabis, late-night drinking and brawling with paparazzi could be explained away as the errors of youth. But Harry, what must you have been thinking when you put on that armband? How much longer can we keep saying this is just the folly of youth? This outfit will just encourage British neo-Nazis and racist skinheads to believe that their sick views are right."
