Bush's claim that Black men get gypped out of Social Security...
because they die younger than white men...

He failed to mention that survivors benefits paid to their minor children in the event of death will apparently be wiped out by his new plan.

When my Dad died at 41, Mom started waitressing and those survivors benefits kept her & us 4 kids out of poverty.

I wonder how many black mothers (& fathers) even know about this benefit?

1. Probably not many. And I don't see how Bush expects
anyone to believe him when he expresses concern for minorities. He'll hire minority staff members, as long as they're unquestionably loyal, but I've never seen him show any concern for the general population.

3. Black, white, whatever... Those social security checks...

... are what kept us in our home when my father died at 48. There was my mom, a secretary with no college degree, with three kids under the age of 15 to support. I shudder to think how much further our lives would have unraveled without those checks. :(

even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

5. That's the new definition of chutzpah.
Chutzpah is a Republican president who cuts back social programs for black Americans, and thereby, creates hardships for them which shortens their lifespans; and then using the fact that they live shorter lives to eliminate yet another social program for them.

6. The average life expectancy of a black man is lower
than the Social Security retirement age. I believe that's the statistic, and I believe it's accurate. I'm checking right now.

needy people know about Social Security survivor benefits because social service agencies and even some churches tell them about it. If you volunteer or work with low income people at any sophisticated level, you will know that informing them about government benefits of all kinds is a part of your work.
