A pre-emptive war under false pretenses = war crime?
Our compassionate president invaded a sovereign nation under FALSE PRETENSES causing the deaths of possibly one hundred thousand citizens and thousands of coalition troops and the world yawns.

2. You can't have war crimes if there is no war
You can probably be charged with other things, but legally declaring War requires Congress to sign off.

We haven't had a war since....oh hell, before Vietnam. They've all been "military actions".

4. You're being facetious, right?
International law doesn't give a good goddamn what the perpetrators of the crime want to call it.

8. Only slightly facetious
I'm just making the same point the accused would make. We are not at war. Legally there can be no war crimes if there is no war.

You are coming from a reality based stance here. Get with the program Minstrel Boy dude.

6. The world doesn't yawn
The world is cringing in fear. The US is yawning because we think the rest of the world is supposed to suck up to us.

11. Nothing is going to happen, though...
nothing. For one thing, Bush would have to be deposed. Don't see that happening. Who will bring him to justice? Who will drag him from the Whitehouse in chains?

It is a nice fantasy, and a warming thought to picture in your mind such an event, but sadly it is never going to come to be.

12. Count 1 at Nuremberg: "Conspiracy to Wage Aggressive War"
Count 2: "Waging Aggressive War, or 'Crimes Against Peace'"

Those are the first two charges against the Big Guys. Not the "I was only following orders" guys--but the ones who gave the orders.

15. A 'pre-emptive' war could call for new classification.
When does 'pre-emptive' turn into an invasion of another nation. Semantics may be the only shield this administration has to offer.

22. Check my post--#12.
Waging aggressive war is, indeed, a War Crime.

At least, they said so at Nuremberg.

23. This is known as a crime against peace
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 11:11 AM by StopThePendulum
according to the Nuremberg treaty.

Crimes against peace consist of starting wars, especially under false pretenses. War crimes are atrocities committed by warriors during a war.

24. This war is a flat out war crime.
Just ask Noam Chomsky. This war is a flat out war crime. Aggression, as defined by the Geneva Convention, is the most severe of all war crimes. Good to know that the US doesn't hold the same standards of ourselves as we place on others.
