DU, You Have Just Witnessed History; GOP Is Choking on Their Spew
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 08:46 PM by Starpass
......I've waited decades for this moment. You will never know what a freedom I feel this evening. YOU have witnessed history this evening: you have seen that what "goes around, JUST DONE DID COME AROUND!!! Hang a second with me...you don't know what you just witnessed with this asshole in chief's speech.

Ronnie and the repukes preached the gospel of greed and it became the repuke screed for decades. They sold us on "ME ME" and told us that it was bleeding heart liberal shit to spend a fucking dime on someone else---it was the ruin of this nation. They taught us to hate 'cause it's easier to not spend a dime on your neighbor if you hate them then if you care for them. They told us to puke and fight any and all taxes because it's YOUR MONEY. They wrapped it in a flag and added a cross as an accessory. The rightwing preachermen on tv (and elsewhere--and I saw it) told us that this is what Jeeesus meant--he didn't want us to help others because it "enabled" them (Christ must be picking slivers from the cross out of his butt and saying "don't you fucking nail that on me")! And now tonight this regime rests on the total anthesis of what the scum have preached.

They want us to "love Iraqis more than ourselves" and spend and sacrifice for them. The Americans that they have trained so well won't spend a dime to help the children of their own community (schools, etc.)--- do they think they give a fuck about foreigners with brown skin whom the repukes have preached are slimy, Muslim, foreign devils (huh, Falwell, do they)?? Do they think this greedy society doesn't care that much about their financial security and comforts that they want to give it all away to some bastards who they think will eventually steal their jobs??? Do they think they want to PAY THE FUCKING NATIONAL DEBT FROM THEIR OWN POCKETS (taxes) for "freedom for Iraq". All you have to do is listen to call-ins to C-Span......the repukes refer to how great George is because he's keeping the terrorists busy over there and, thus, not here. Ahhhh, I thought we were suppose to be thrilled at liberating these people (the last excuse for George when no WMDS, etc. showed up)...but it seems it's okay to blow these fuckers to hell 'cause they are foreign trash to save our own skin---get the picture, folks. We don't care about these people because the repukes taught us not to. And now Bush NEEDS us to care to give him bizillions and pay for it AND to LOVE HIM AND WORSHIP HIM FOR HIS GENEROSITY (a word they laughed at and made a joke of here in America)....ain't gonna happen George. You animals did your job too well. America doesn't care....you made them that way and now you can't get them to feel all warm and fuzzy so that you can hold your ill-gotten job.

1. Great post!
But the big thing to remember is that all the huge amounts of cash he wants to pour into Iraq won't go to the people of Iraq; the money is for military and rebuilding... therefore it goes to the corporations (friends and donors of Bushcorp) that do rebuilding and manufacture materials for the military. This, like the tax rebates, is just one more way to loot the national treasury for the wealthy. Hail to the Thief!

11. Tricky
Most of the expenditures are hidden, so hard for the public to know where the money goes. But these guys have shown in the past that they are more than willing to hire companies run by repugs and to rain cash on them. If we could figure out a way for repug corporations to get rich by helping students, elderly, disabled, the poor, and inner city kids, we'd have it made.

$300 for every man, woman and child

And not only that:

We're not supposed to be nation building.
The "terrorists" are not running away.
I assume that the $80+ Billion is for ONE YEAR.
I do NOT see France sending 10,000 troops to Iraq.

The neocons played their hand, and they were called. Turns out they were bluffing. They really can't defend us. And they really can't run the economy. Osama has beaten them, and now they need to run to daddy for help. Well, daddy may help, but Junior has to go sit in the corner for a while.

36. They were too busy blocking anti-terrorism legislation
that Clinton tried to pass through congress. The congressional thugs didn't seem to think that Bin Laden was enough of a threat to warrant legislation that would make it easier to go after him. After they killed the bill, Clinton made it into an executive order.

No one (and probably, literally no one wathed tonight), saw that speech and said "gosh GWB, I was losing faith in you, but gall darn, you just inspired the socks off of me"........no, they are seeing him as a fucking loser because they can't find jobs and they see Iraq as a piece of shit falling about more and more. They did not tune him in tonight...only the partisan hacks like us. Any others just said "yep , right, what a fucking asshole". It isn't the same as "before". 40. Splendid post
I was on the road all day, so missed the speech. It's nigh impossible for me to listen to him anymore anyway.

Your line about wrapping themselves in the flag and adding a cross as an accessory is inspired.

This is a fundamental contradiction to their very core premises, and that causes a shock to the system. Having extolled the virtues of selfishness (damn you, Ayn Rand) they now have to row upstream against the current of all the greed of humanity that they have fostered. Good.

Their word means nothing, and their ability to assess amounts to even less. Demanding as they do unflinching obedience and airtight secrecy, mistakes are intolerable and inexcusable.

They must twist in the wind for a goodly long time.

They have to wake up or their gun is the only thing they will have left!! I hope unions push the shit out of this election to their workers.

Anybody have the numbers on that?

I bet Halliburton gets at least $30 million of the 87 million. No shit.

THAT'S why he is going to get this money from the us BEFORE the UN gets involved financially. Remember he said that would be a couple of months from now. Halliburton will be squeezed out of the process when other countries join in the "reconstruction."

Halliburton. I can't say how insane this is that we are talking about Halliburton. These guys must end up in jail.

Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 09:29 PM by Q
...but you're not alone (on DU) in believing the fantasy that 'the people' will revolt against the King of Dunces in 2004. This can be dangerous thinking in that it could lull us into complacency and weaken the fight against election fraud and shadow governments.

- The GOP may choke on their spew and a tree may fall in a forest with no one around...but GWB* still has dozens of layers of 'plausible deniability' teflon between him and accountability...and a meda that's been covering for his misdeeds for three years.

- Those wealthy few who own the media also 'own' the truth. As DUers celebrate George's downfall...the corporate media is reporting that he has 'justified' his war, blank check budget and US sponsored terror.

20. Q--the media couldn't save him from the 45% approval rating
Think about it. All through campaign 2000 to this day constant cheerleading for him and hiding his shit. And, also complete keeping any Dem message from coming out. And what's the result: 45% approval rating. They want ratings. I'll guarantee you, you will be hearing 'rip the boy down' talk. They started this when he reached the low 50's. They know the people want "shit on Bush peices" now and not cheerleading. And then comes the cherry on the top. When his numbers drop enough, the repukes will distane themselves from him because of re-election (like the Dems did to Clinton). This isn't the same shit different day.

48. On Larry King, right after the speech, he had five reporters who
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 07:20 AM by CalamityJane
ripped right into Bush. Christiane Amanpour, Nic Robertson, Judith Martin (must have been trying to recover her credibility), an intelligent, thirtyish-looking Brit from some publication and an intelligent, thirtyish-looking American from Newsweek.

They pointed out he had said nothing about the WMDs, the thirtyish guys and Nic Robertson were in Iraq and pointing out how the Iraqis are pissed off that everything but the oil ministry got looted and on and on.

Then some regular people called in and had some very pointed questions as well.

On edit: A particularly good point that Christiane Amanpour brought up was that Bush had promised to do a "Marshall Plan" for Afghanistan, remember that? And that is just working out so well over there, isn't it?

Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 07:13 AM by Q
...have little to do with each other. Recent history shows us that it's possible to become president* against the will of the majority.

- These 'ratings' come from those who helped illegally install Bush* in the first place. They may at times reflect the truth...but are subject to change when they need to give GWB* a boost...like right before an election.

- The numbers mean nothing because they can be manipulated at will. The ONLY way they would harm this illegal presidency if they were accompanied by negatives stories by the 'mainstream' media....along with calls for impeachment.

- Keep in mind that the Bushies have broken the law all their lives and gotten away with it. You can count on the fact that they have a 'plan B' waiting in the wings.

21. EXACTLY! I was thinking
along the same lines just not quite as far back. I HATED Reagan, I hated how he made the people of this country feel and he was so good at it because everyone of us would love to be selfish. Some of us won't allow ourselves to be but most will go along to benefit themselves. You are so right on with this.

One other point. Along with this speech comes the information that we are in danger from more attacks. WE are in DANGER, they are coming for us, there is chatter, beware! Now just what are we going to do then? Our infrastructure is in bad shape, our economy stinks, many of us do not have jobs, good schools or health care but we are going to provide that in Iraq (and we really should) but what are we going to rely on if we do get attacked? Are they nuts? These things do not go well together.

38. Get The Bad News Out First
I'm always suspect of Rove's timing.

This "speech" got zero to no commentary on the networks...even PBS went back to their programming in a hurry. I noticed CNBC, which had the speech listed on the cable scrawl, wasn't carrying it...and even the CNN and MessyNBC coverage was trunacated.

Rove knows that he needs to get his bad news and baggage out of the way and rally the bases...let the "blame Clinton for all ills" story circulate among the base and the energize it next year with the "threat of Hillary". With the election still a year out, Rove knows he still has time to spin things his way. Remember, this regime doesn't have to win, it doesn't even have to tie...it just has to come close.

Most people were too interested in watching football or a movie or out for dinner and I'll bet Whistle Ass' ratings will be very low. Gone are the days when a REAL President spoke and we all watched...even if we didn't like the bastard.

Rove's deal all along is to lull the opposition into either complacency or distort lies (9/11 = Saddam) so that when they are spoke, it's assumed they are the truth. I think he's overplayed this time.

Two things...

1.) A lot of people are hurting out there and for many reasons...out of a job, national security, the Iraq invasion, tax hikes to the rich and so on...there's so many reasons to not vote for this inept simian and the list grows longer each day. Those sinking poll numbers represent that mile wide/inch think this "president" had at his height of "popularity". Reality has set in.

2.) Those of us, THE MAJORITY, never wanted this scum and his crooks in the first place and we can't wait to get to the polls to drum him and his ilk out. I don't see Democrats running away, I see a rejuvenating party that must stand up proud for being on the right side of what's not only important for all Americans, but for the safety and sanity of the world!

Cheers

And I would love to see it put in perspective - like 87 billion dollars is the education budget for how many states? 87 billion dollars will cover health care for how many uninsured Americans? 87 billion dollars will fund prescription drug coverage for how many people? 87 billion dollars will provide low income housing for how many poor families?

Now about those tax cuts...

If George want's to spend 87 billion dollars he should have to take it out of the existing defense budget. Can't find the money? Gee, maybe let's put off Star Wars for a few years, maybe we don't really need that extra aircraft carrier or research on smaller nukes.

That's what everyone else has to do to afford something on limited money. Our school district had to cut 8 million dollars. So we cut programs, clerical staff, school security, music and art programs. We didn't have the option of just saying we needed 8 million more dollars and have it handed over to us just like that.

Now about those tax cuts...
