If the Third Reich and the Internet had co-existed
Do you think we'd be reading archived posts from people saying the exact same things we've been saying here on DU?

There are a hell of a lot of intelligent, erudite people posting on this site and many of the posts express a sort of mystified wonderment at the events taking place all around us. It's a kind of a "WTF" mentality.

6. The biggest difference about the White Rose and posters
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 05:51 PM by Squatch
here on DU, is that members of the White Rose actually did something, at the risk of their life and limb, to change the in situ regime.

(corrected to say that a lot of posters here on DU do do good work to change the current US regime. And for that, I thank them)

12. There is safety in numbers. The White Rose wasn't nearly as large as DU.
Also, DUers do things outside of DU in smaller groups where there is not so much safety.

edit to add:

however I think the people involved in the W.R.S were executed.

3. Good Question!
Don't know the answer. Denial in all of its forms, is a basic defense mechanism...and a part of our human survival apparatus..many in Germany after the war, said that they did not know of the horrors of the camps even though they were often very close to where these same people lived. Denial to ones self would be more difficult with the access to internet, but i think it would still occur..and does in our society today.

4. I believe that those who now support Bush
would forever be in a state of denial.

Even now, if their worldview is threatened, they change the facts to suit them.

5. Hitler said he couldn't have done it w/out radio, movies, & loud speakers
if he'd just had television and all the major media AND the internet at his command. but he did a lot with what he had.

i sometimes hear right wingers using the same language the nazis used when referring to all non aryan races. ignoring the mass slaughter of innocents, and blindly supporting der fuhrer.

7. Are they ignorant of history or do they believe it "Can't happen here"?
I see too many parallels between the rise of the Third Reich and the rise of Bush.

11. The neo-cons have been raised and conditioned by the.....
...decendents of the Third Reich. They are the heirs and now are collecting their inheritance.

8. Check out Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will" on DVD
It'll give you an idea of what Hitler did for propaganda. It freaks me out to think what he could have done with real mass media, never mind the internet. :scared:

9. We'd be hanging from meathooks with piano wire around our
necks. Bush is not that sure of himself, yet.
