George won't say it, but I will.
I am so, so sorry.

I'm not a member of the military, I've never supported George W. Bush, I don't drive an SUV, I don't use more than my "fair shar" of the Earth's resources, and I don't turn a blind eye to injustice. I have no direct role in the carnage in Iraq.

And yet, I am unable to wash this blood from my hands.

The justifications for war in Iraq were false. We may never convince the general public that they were deliberate lies, but at a minimum, we know our pre-war intelligence was incorrect. And this White House treats that fact as though it is without consequences.

While reading an article (http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0113-29.htm) on Common Dreams today that outlined Scott McLellan's (non)response to the conclusion that Iraq does not have and probably never did have WMD, I found myself crying in a combination of shame and rage. Are my tears appropriate, or should I start taking Xanax?

As an American, I am ashamed of my leaders, and I'm ashamed of all of us who allow them to get away with such atrocities.

And I am so, so sorry.

1. Very eloquent, Jane. I too
am sad, enraged, ashamed and sorry. This means nothing to the Iraqis who have lost loved ones. Another emotion I have is helplessness.

3. "Most elected Democrats wont say it, but I will."
George Bush and the media were and are LYING. Thats right LYING-(GASP- I used the forbidden L word!) to us when they claimed Saddam threatened us with tons of nuclear, chemical & biological weapons. They even presented forged & plagerized materials- if that aint lying, then I dont know what is.

And that makes Bush & the media not only "liars" but "criminals."

Too bad DEM "strategists" have all decided that telling the blunt, honest, provable truth is "too radical." Oh well, that wont stop REAL DEMS like me from doing it.

4. What was sad was that most of the world turned out
to protest this invasion of Iraq before it happened and yet the Bush administration did it anyway. They don't care about the will of the people. They don't care about human rights. They are truly from the darkest circle of Hell.

6. George Bush grossly violated international law and committed . . .
countless war crimes in the process (depleted uranium weapons, mass bombing of infrastructures and civilian areas, torture, etc.) . . . he invaded a sovereign country that posed absolutely no threat to the US (and which we had embargoed for ten years) and had no "weapons of mass destruction" -- a term that I hate since what we've done to Fallujah in particular and Iraq in general is nothing if not "mass destruction" . . .

apparently the rest of the civilized world is so cowed by the US and our (rapidly dwindling) economic clout that they refuse to call the invasion of Iraq what it is . . . in a sane world, George Bush and his minions would be facing charges before an international court, and the case would be a slam dunk . . .

7. He's a "war" criminal all right.
The majority of American's just don't want to realize just how fucked up their little chimp is. Too painful for them to wrap their cowardly little minds around. Kind of like giant ovens in your backyard belching smoke that smells like burnt hair but never admitting ever knowing anything. In the law it's called voluntary disablement (ie, telling yourself a lie, because if you don't, you might have to do something difficult). Sickens me too.
