6. I read the transcript and it sounded OK.
....it was a 'stay the course' type of speech, and it seemed to make alot of sense if you believe we just can't "walk away" from Iraq.

11. It was a "stay the course" speech...nothing special.
The reality of the situation is that we are in Iraq and really cant just walk away from the place....

....now if this played right it will demonstrate what a big screwup Bushes forgeing policy is as the USA cant really do it alone in Iraq (which the speech pretty much admits). ....unfortunatly Bushes bellicose unitlateralist foreign policy has alienated potential allies.

Bush is now going to go back to the UN for help, and try to get foreign countrys to kick in some $$$ (or is it Euros) to help out. Good luck after pretty much pissing on the UN and the EU in the run-up to the war...this may lead to lead to further deterioration in relations.

27. I cannot believe this
No, it was spin the WMD war into the terrorist war.

It was spin the WMD war into rah rah for peace and democracy.

It was spin the UN into weanies who won't stand up to their international 'obligations' and for 'peace for the Iraqis'.

It was even blame the Iraqis because if they don't help stop the 'terrorists' it means they really don't want peace and democracy.

AND it was $87 billion dollars more while our economy is in the toilet and Bush still won't admit that his wars and his tax give aways are going to bankrupt the country.

If Bush truly wanted to help Iraq, he'd put together a resolution that cedes the governmental, economic and humanitarian control to the UN. But those morons couldn't possibly stand to lose a dime today in order to make things better in the future. And still think they know what's best for the world, even though it's been proven time and again that they're complete failures.

Maybe it's in the delivery, maybe you have to watch it to see how full of shit this little pinhead really is.

39. In other words
It can be construed as very very clever.
He has practically spun it into the Democratic platform for Iraq policy proposed pby the leading candidates in the debate.
Don't underestimate this. It is being spun as a humble and practical retreat and just what the Democrats think should be done now.
This is an emerging "new candidate" for '04.
The strategy may be to totally recreate him. The polls indicate they wouldn't re-elect, but Rove might be working on a "new man" platform. Watch out!

Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 10:11 PM by leftofthedial
I think the dwoners they feed him before his speeches must have worn off on you.

He lied again about WMDs.

He insinuated (and that is so consistent that is should be counted as a lie) that 9-11 was Iraq's fault.

He lied that we are taking the war to those who attacked us. We haven't invaded Saudi Arabia or Egypt or Pakistan to my knowledge.

It was a blandly delivered rehash of the same old propaganda lies.

Except for the EIGHTY-SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS! That is simply outrageous. How much of that will end up in his and Cheney's pockets?

edit: I can't type even when I'm not pissed off

Saddam did possess and use WMD... back in the 80's.

'terrrible' weapons. That's the one to start throwing around. We went to war over 'terrible' weapons??? I thought he had nuclear bombs ready to hand off to terrorists. Since when were nuclear bombs terrible weapons.

Otherwise, yeah. This was honestly the worst display I've ever seen and I've been watching Presidents for over 40 years.

31. like the way he continually insinuates the Iraq-alQaeda link
he repeatedly talks about ancient WMDs from Raygun and Poppy's time, knowing full well the sheeple won't know the difference. It's a technical truth knowingly used as a lie.

Lame, lame, lame.

Very Viet Nam-esque.

He mentioned how we got rid of the WMD and how we're democratizing the M.E.. Then, I went to the grocery store and deprived myself of another thrilling MSNBCBS propagandized suitmouth interpret what the fake prez just said.

It was just like the press said it would be, give me $87 billion to rid the world of evil, please, pretty please Senate!

15. He kept talking about terrorists...
someone posted he said terrorist,
terror, terrorists more than any
other word. He wants money to
build the infrastructure of Iraq,
He wants Iraqis to be safe, be
educated, be prosperous.

He wants Americans to help him
make Iraqis prosperous by sending
all their money and soldier sons
and daughters over there.

I think he believes he is the President
of Iraq, or at least he acts like that
is his country of concern. The rest of
us can tough it out in the hard times.

All the while he spoke I kept thinking
how much he looked like one of those
monkey people in "Planet of the Apes",
it became so fascinating that I found
it more interesting than anything he
was saying.

I think he always looks like Alfred E. Neumann, from Mad magazine. Seems like they would get him different hair cut.

The speech won't change much. The public didn't expect a quagmire and Bush had to go on TV and tell them we're in a quagmire. It's his job to tell people that and he hasn't been doing it. So, he gets some points for coming on TV with the facts, but loses more points because there is no way to make a shit sandwich go down smooth.

21. He declared war on the world again. No big deal.
The gist of it was:
- war on any swarthy-looking people who resist us (We were right all along).
- war on European allies who don't pay up to help us pull off our plundering of Iraq.
- war on the American people, who will now have $87 billion less of their own dollars (Remember the bit about "It's OUR money"?) to do anything that makes their own lives better.

You see (he explained), he needs our money to funnel to his friends at Halliburton & Bechtel. So we must sacrifice.

It was a magnificient success. He was a "true" President, standing up for truth, justice and the American Way.

Some of the gushers even said they were filled with pride by his statesmenship and courage. Just like when he landed that fighter on the deck of the carrier in the Gulf of Iraq.

Geeeeezuz. What a pack of morons. They do not KNOW anything at all about the world and what is going on in it.
