Well, I let it slip..not sure at the right time

Basically my fiancee got a call from her sister who lives in NYC. She took a fall down a flight of stairs and got messed up pretty good. But her husband is an artist and they don't have any health care, and they both voted for * (which I SOOO can't understand...an artist voting for shrub!!??).

So while my fiancees dad was over and she was telling him the news and how screwed they are due to her not having it, I mumbled (louder than I thought) "guess she voted for the wrong guy then huh".

you were compelled to speak the truth against your better judgement. it must've been a visitation of inspiration. you were touched.

7. Restraint is hard.
I am usually cool but can look daggers. A friend of mine however went to see F911 and whenever Shrub appeared he'd involuntarily call out multisyllabic profanities. His wife got him to be less vocal. But it is hard. Of course at home, I curse regularly when suckered into watching the "news" and Shrub appears.

8. So why don't they have health insurance?
Can they not afford it?

When I owned my own business, I had a catastrophic policy which was about $ 200 per month for my son and I.

My wife is in poor health and she was in the Texas High Risk Health Insurance pool.

10. The "definition" of catastrophic is the fly in the ointment.
Those policies are often written like the "extended warranties" that car delers sell on used cars.. They SOUND great, until somthing goes wrong, and then...miraculously, the policy covers everything..EXCEPT what YOU need :)

Buyer beware.. Those policies often come with hefty deductibles..that's why they are so "cheap"..

23. Mine was just a regular John/Alden Fortis
policy but it had a $ 5,000 deductible.

But her hubby is an apprentice for these artists (not quite sure apprentice is appropiate term..but he builds their works for them). Anyway from what I understand he gets paid really funky, he doesn't get taxes taken out so they have to figure out what they owe every year and they just can't afford to get insurance, least from my understanding of the situation.

24. He's probably paid as an independant contractor
That means no benefits and no withholding.

You have to send in a quarterly check to the IRS as an estimate four times a year. Tough if your income isn't steady.

Obviously if they're sending in checks, then they're making enough to owe taxes.

I hope everyone is okay.

I have a friend who delivers pizzas who's over 40 and single. Even though the company offers health insurance, he won't spend the monbey for it. He just says if he goes to the hospital he won't pay his bill. I think his direct quote when I criticized him for his irresponsibility was "they can eat s**t."

14. Not as bad as it could of been
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 03:16 AM by malmapus
My fiancee caught it and gave me "the stare" but her dad didn't catch it and when he turned to me and asked me to repeat it, she jumped in and said "oh he was just pointing out how hard things are now with that idiot in the White House", her dad just nodded and they went back to talking about the accident.

EDIT: It was kinda humerous cause I was playing a game on the computer and just paying attention to the conversation, thats when I literally spoke my mind, realized I might have actually said it and turned to see if what I said was heard heh.

They'd probably appreciate it, because, yes, they probably will remember it.

26. Heh, can understand where you come from

I've wanted to scream to my fiancee's sisters (both of them and their family voted for that idiot). Me and my better half did manage to talk her dad, mom and bro to vote for Kerry.

But recently my fiancee took a trip to Texas to help the sis who lives in NYC babysit their cousins kids (my fiancee was doing it more to just see her sis). Now this family in TX is your perfect Shrub supporters, they drive big ass SUVs have 4 boys ranging from 14 to like a year. The 14 year old is in ROTC.

Anywho, finacee comes back after a week and tells me that the 14 year old went up to them one night and asked her sis, "Aunie H, you voted for Bush didn't you?" to which she replied proudly "yes I did".

Lol he didn't even ask my fiancee who she voted for. But was asking her about me, he knows I was in the Army and asked if I was still in to which she replied, "no, he did his 4 years and got out." To which this 14 year old piece of work replied "well not everyone can handle the military."

My mouth dropped when she told me that, I soo wanted to be there and ask him what his 14 year old ROTC military wanna be ass knows about being in the service!! GRRRRR, lol that still hits my button thinking about it.

21. Eh. It was a little mean. But you're human.
Honestly, what are these people thinking? Although I don't have sympathy for the "I got mine" attitude of most rightwingers (I've got my health insurance, why should I pay for anyone else's?) at least it makes a kind of logical (though evil) sense.

People like this -- artists with no health insurance who vote for B* -- obviously think that some sort of magic power is going to keep them safe and healthy. (Or maybe their parents?)

When they're out on the streets because they've been made totally destitute by health expenses, they'll get a good, close-up look at Bushworld and maybe then they'll realize what it's actually like.

Sorry, had to be said.

While I don't wish harm on most people, I really don't have much sympathy when people who vote for Bush's policies get bitten in the ass.

28. I don't get that either...
artists or professors voting for Bush. I don't know why, it just doesn't make sense to me. Of course, voting for him never makes sense to me.
