The conversion of a young rethuglican
When I first met my partner of 9 years, over 13 years ago he was a non political rethuglican. He comes from a family of god fearing rethuglicans and had never questioned his political roots. Being a well educated individual with just a push to raise his awareness level he has gone from registered die hard republican to voting for Gore in 2000, to re-registering as an Independent and not only voting for Kerry in 2004 but also accompanying me to democratic party meetings and opening his very tight pocketbook for the cause. While he may never register as a Democrat his brain and his heart are with us. He now makes sure the Democratic party meetings are set on our calendar and keeps abreast of news and information on DU and other sites and is almost the sole voice of reason at his office pointing out the "crap" they hear on main stream media is not all the news.

He may not wear a tin foil hat that matches mine but is quick to point out to anyone that statistically there are too many anomalies in the 2004 election to go unquestioned.

There is hope albeit a long road to drag some of the idiots out of the mind numbing drone that keeps republicans ignorant of what is happening in our country.

4. Way to go!!!
The vast majority of Rethugs go around with their collective fingers in their ears, shouting, "la, la, la, la, I can't hear you." If you can get ever get them to listen to other points of view and start thinking for themselves, they can be reached.

12. I have seen this happen once...
Friend of mine married a religious zealot and POOF every one of her brain cells seemed to have just vanished, along with her self esteem, backbone, ideals and dreams.

Thank the goddess it seems not to happen too often.

13. One of my ex-friends did the same thing.
They never married, but when they broke up the rep. influences stuck. She voted for Nader in 2000 and Bush in 2004. Go figure.

14. Heck, I voted for W in 2000
I believed all the talk about how he'd run as a moderate, not try to meddle with other countries, etc. Needless to say I've not been pleased with Iraq, the economy, etc, and didn't vote for him this time.

15. I voted for him in 2000 too - God forgive me
I, too, believed that he would be compassionate and fiscally conservative - I heard so much about how, when in Texas, he was moderate and worked with the dems. And Al Gore just rubbed me the wrong way. The silver lining is that this man made me really LOOK at my views, and I realized that I am socially very liberal and fiscally moderate.

17. Holding My Head As I Read These Two Posts
In that, how the hell did this guy get re-elected?

In 2000, he ran as a moderate fiscal conservative, who would use our military sparingly. Someone who could appeal to middle of the road voters who were willing to give the GOP a shot at the WH after 8 years.

But 2004? Good God.

16. Thanks for giving me hope
My 23 year old daughter is "dating" a republican. I was asked by our retired professor, so what do you think you did wrong? HA.
She is working on him but I'm pleased to read that it can actually occur.

21. Trust me, the conversion is complete... all but one thing
He had no problem picking john O'Neill as a putrid maggot, along with the rest of the hate mongering money grubbing fetid pile of feces that are in control of our country. His one holdout is that he has not registered as a Democrat. Its some sort of a denial thing. I am thinking of waiting a while then trying the one thing that will turn any man's opinion, more blow jobs.
