If U.S. G.I.'s were forced to lay naked in a pile & photographed... |
|
....If a foreign enemy forced Johnny Weber of Olathe, Kansas to smear his own feces all over himself at rifle point, if he were forced to masturbate his fellow G.I., Earnesto Montoya on camera, if he were tortured with attack dogs and beaten by smiling insurgents, and the photos published all over the world, how would America react?

The whole world is scum to us. Look at the way we treated our slaves and the indians, so why should some petty Iraquis get any respect? I am still sick and ashamed about the abu grabe incident.

The US reaction to what "we do" is often incredibly hypocritical to the US reaction to what "they do".

7. I don't doubt this. I have many friends in the armed forces |
|
We're not talking about them. We mean the American public, but then again, that would take time away from them pondering the fate of Brad and Jennifer or who will be the next American Idol.
The people of this country would have a collective cow if the things that happened in Abu Gharib happened to American soldiers and were broadcast on American television.

An eye for an eye? We should lower ourselves to the level of our enemies? Exactly what? Just the other day I saw a column that suggested that an acceptable end result is for an Iraqi regime to take over that will ruthlessly suppress the insurgents, even if the regime is anti-US as well. Great: an anti US Iraqi government that ruthlessly suppresses Iraqis. And how exactly does that constitute an improvement over Saddam and a justifcation for 1000s upon 1000s of deaths?

14. How do you know what 95% of Iraqis want? |
|
We have imposed a military grip upon a people who lived many centuries without elections before our country was founded, and now our lying president is forcing them to have elections. I don't see how you can divine what is the will of the millions of ordinary Iraqis.

but I'm having trouble with the logic that having an anti-US Iraqi regime that terrorizes its own citizens is a "successful" result -- after all, I thought we went into this war not to get rid of non-existant WMDs but to make the US safer by deposing an anti-US regime and for humanitarian reasons.

17. You left out the part that the Iraqis want us out of their country. |
|
Your apologia for barbarity is mighty thin. Not to mention that the war, the occupation, and the installation of a puppet regime is immoral and illegal.
You also seem to forget that some of the "Nazi fascists" that the German democracy tried to hunt down were safely ensconced in the U.S.A. brought to here to build our rocket program.

|
It's a cool word and all, but it's apparent from looking at the context of your post that you don't know what a fascist is.
Tip: George W Bush is a fascist. Look up the traits of fascism and you'll find out what I'm talking about.
Sorry if this offends you, but it's the truth.

10. We are not talking about this being done to known terrorists |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 11:36 AM by The empressof all
There were also many, many people imprisioned and tortured in Iraq who were never convicted of a crime. It would be like your family being picked up in a sweep of your neighborhood then jailed and forced to submit to this humiliation by a foreign invader.
Don't assume everyone we tortured there was a terrorist, freedom fighter, rebel, or criminal.
(On edit:I am not implying in my title that it is ok to torture terrorists. It's a crime and a Sin to do this to any human being.)

11. 70% of Abu Ghraib's prisoners were just average villagers |
|
not insurgents or warriors. most of them did not even commit a criminal act, only picked up for suspicion and re-education.
so your comparison is correct.

24. Since when do we set the standard for America by the actions of others? |
|
Just because other groups/countries use torture doesn't justify the use of torture by America.
I thought America was supposed to be better than that? Guess not, huh?
I guess the use of torture by America proves America is no better than other criminal elements that use torture. When America speaks of human rights abuses in other countries, they really don't have room to talk now do they?
Certainly the acceptance of torture by some Americans proves those Americans are without a conscience. Without integrity. Without honor. Without any decency whatsoever.
My husband serves, so spare me any outrage for your son's safety. Rationalizing torture by America puts your son in jeopardy of being tortured by others.
If your son is to serve with even a modicum of honor, he must serve without embracing torture or being involved in torture. He must inform on others when he witnesses torture. Otherwise, he would be no better than the examples you've given.
oh, and...I'm sorry if that offends you but it's the truth.

...keep a leash with you. When they belittle what happened, bring it out, tell them to put it on, strip naked, and make a pyramid. If posible, have a big barking dog with you too.
See how quick they are...
