WTF? Sharon/Abbas -- making. my. head. HURT!
Jan 11:

"Israel's Sharon phones congratulations to Abbas
CTV.ca News Staff

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has called newly elected Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas -- the first contact between the men since Abbas' victory in Sunday's presidential elections.

The two leaders spoke for 10 minutes, and Sharon congratulated Abbas "on his personal achievement and his victory in the elections and wished him luck," said a statement issued by the prime minister's office. "They agreed they would continue talking in the near future." "

Jan 14:

"JERUSALEM - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) severed contacts with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas until he acts against militants, a spokesman said Friday, a day after six Israelis were killed in an attack on a Gaza Strip (news - web sites) crossing.

The Israeli leadership had initially said it would not retaliate for the Gaza attack and would give Abbas time to rein in the militants."

1. Amazingly, Sharon is Motivated for Peace
That is the best sign in a generation. Just like Northern Ireland, it will require overlooking some things while trying to work out a compromise.
