Newsbrief: Marines Claim Fallujah Foes Were Hopped Up on Dope
Newsbrief: Marines Claim Fallujah Foes Were Hopped Up on Dope 1/14/05

On the same day that the Bush administration finally conceded that its search for weapons of mass destruction, the key rationale for the US invasion of Iraq, had been fruitless, US military officials in Iraq were eager to change the topic -- to Islamic fundamentalists on drugs. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Marines who fought in the November assault on the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah said they found numerous stockpiles of stimulant drugs such as amphetamines and adrenaline. Bizarrely, they also claimed to have found crack pipes, which would presumably be quite rare in a country never known for having a cocaine-using population.

US troops pronounced themselves befuddled by insurgent fighters who kept on fighting even while wounded. They must have been on drugs, the Marines concluded. "One guy described it as like watching the 'Night of the Living Dead,'" corpsman Peter Melady said. "People who should have been dead were still alive."

Knowing that their foes were dope fiends prompted the Marines to change their strategy, the Times reported. "On the second day of the fight, word came down to focus on head shots, that body shots were not good enough," said 1st Lt. Tim Strabbing, a platoon leader with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Strabbing said his platoon found five locations with stockpiles of needles and adrenaline. "My guys put five rounds into a guy who just stood there and took it and then took off running," he said.

3. They just kept coming and coming without a care about dying?
Isn't that how those very same Marines would have reacted if Iraqi tanks had been shelling THEIR families?

4. If it is true
I'm sure the military will have no difficulty producing those stockpiles of drugs and crack pipes that they say they found, right?

12. Go pills are a regular part of Dumsfeld's New Army: supersoldiers
like that blew up 4 Canadian troops in the Chimperial Province of Afghanistan in 2002.
I do not believe an apology has been issued.

9. Yeah, like they weren't?
C'mon it is a pretty open secret that the people in the armed services have pretty easy access to drugs, especially speed. Remember those guys who were gooding around and cut the gondola cable? Hopped up pilots on speed. And it isn't like the Vietnam war wasn't fueled by opium and heroin.

This is just the same old tired trick of demonizing your enemies, especially with accusations of actions that you are actually performing.

14. Zombies on CRACK!
Since this seems to be of benefit to a fighting force, pehaps our boys should take up use. Then again, it could be seen as a performance enhancing drug. I see McCain introducing legislation banning any the use of such performing enhancing drugs during wartime.

16. Isn't this the same defense used in many police brutality cases?
This sounds like a rationalization for killing wounded enemy combatants.
