1. social security,
maybe universal health care. I think I've seen a poll that shows that something like 67% of Americans are in favor of socialized medicine.

2. There is no such issue.
The fact that they're openly siding with big pharma on the issue of whether companies can get away with lying to stockholders and customers -- while at the same time they're gutting Social Security -- proves the war has been premanently lost.

Seriously: it's time to move off the continent. It'll be getting very ugly from here on out.

3. Corruption
Health care is a lackluster issue and if we keep setting our priorities that low, the Republicans will keep saying that we have no ideas for the future.

4. fiscal conservatism
There are still some actual fiscal conservatives in that party and they don't like what this administration is doing. Of course, Poppy and Reagan did it, too, so I guess it's a slow learning curve.

For as long as I've been voting, there hasn't BEEN a fiscally-conservative Republican administration, but I know there are Republicans who believe in the concept of balanced budgets. Eventually I think this could create a split.

6. New Freedom Initiative
No one wants their children's mental stability tested by pharmaceutical companies. Shoot, no one wants their own mental stability tested by pharmaceutical companies.

8. Latin American immigration (esp illegal immigration)
This is the perfect issue for splitting xenophobes from cheap-labor right wingers.

Also it will galvanize Hispanics into a solid Democratic block.

The stupidest thing Pete Wilson did as governor is support the anti-immigrant prop 187. It made sure Hispanics would vote in numbers for Democrats.
