U.S.-Led Soldiers Said to Damage Babylon

LONDON - U.S.-led troops using the ancient Iraqi city of Babylon as a base have damaged and contaminated artifacts dating back thousands of years in one of the world's most important archaeological sites, the British Museum said Saturday.

For example, military vehicles crushed a 2,600-year-old brick pavement, and archaeological fragments, including broken bricks stamped by King Nebuchadnezzar II around the same time, were scattered across the site, a museum report said.

The dragons at the Ishtar Gate were marred by cracks and gaps where someone tried to remove their decorative bricks, the paper said.

John Curtis, keeper of the British Museum's Near East department, who was invited by the Iraqis to study the site, also found that large quantities of sand mixed with archaeological fragments have been taken from the site to fill military sandbags.

"This is tantamount to establishing a military camp around the Great Pyramid in Egypt or around Stonehenge in Britain," Curtis said in the report.

1. It will if BushCo takes over the world...
thereby controlling all media outlets and, therefore, history.

4. It tells me they're evil.
And that they're perfectly content to blast a country to ruins without any concern for what happens after they topple its government.

I can't imagine that they'll EVER do that again after Iraq.
</sarcasm>

Just because they're not in control of the post-war situation in Iraq doesn't mean that Bush and his cronies haven't conquered the country.

I'm not saying this as any kind of Bush apologist. I think the war was a horrible, unnecessary mistake, but don't kid yourself into thinking that this administration didn't do exactly what they wanted to--they destroyed the Iraqi government and military in order to set up a puppet regime that will do whatever the US tells them to. The fact that they don't have control of the population doesn't really concern them.

So, yes, I do think that BushCo could do this again and again around the globe.

5. If the oil isn't running the USA is losing. And the oil is not running
Without being in control of the population the oil will never be running. I realize that one can look into this deeper than that, but the oil is really the bottom line. That is the yardstick that will be used to measure success or failure in this venture.

12. LMAO
Let's see, 2 million Vietnamese civilians (by conservative estimates). 100,000+ Iraqi civilians, according to scientific studies by Johns Hopkins and British medical journal The Lancet.

That's a lot of history we haven't been "kind" to.

10. Amen.
My husband and are were making the same observations recently. It sickens me to think how those in the future will judge us. In case there are any Right wing, nut job, fundis here right now. Listen up, there IS going to be a FUTURE. You will not be around to see the "Rapture", if there is even such a thing. I believe, you may be very surprised to see how you are judged at the gates of heaven. Surprise folks, all that love thy neighbor stuff, well, God means it. I know you cannot condemn an entire group by the actions of a few. I do believe many of you are consumed with the wrong "values".
Okay I'm done spewing. Hope to post something more positive and uplifting next time.
