Poll question: "Tradition bites!" Do you agree or disagree? |
|
I know there are some wrestling fans that post here. Back in the late 90's, there was a heel wrestling faction called the NWO. One of their catch phrases was "Tradition Bites!". When applied to American politics, I think the phrase is pretty accurate!
Electoral college: Tradition bites! "Traditional values": Tradition bites! Slavery was once a tradition: Tradition BITES!!
I realize that there are probably some traditions that are good things, but whenever a progressive idea starts to gain ground, the right-wing starts yapping about tradition! When the electoral college and 56-state voting issues come up, watch how the conservatives will fight these ideas tooth and nail in the name of "tradition"

1. depends on what your goal is |
|
If it is a simple bumper sticker, then it's fine. If you want a winning slogan for the Democrats or other progressive groups, it's not a good choice. Tradition is popular.

2. Depends on which "tradition" |
|
For example...
Traditional Southern and Appalachian music are great and should be defended. Traditional Southern and Appalachian attitudes towards African Americans, gays and women aren't.
The Mexican artistic tradition is wonderful. The Aztec human sacrifice tradition had some shortcomings.
and on and on.
