Will someone please explain to me the military scholarship process? |
|
I have two friends who have children that are going to military-type schools. One is the Citadel. One of the parents is in the Air Force and she apparently is recruiting heavily in the high schools. However, most people don't see her as a recruiter because she's lived in the neighborhood for a long time raising her family. She has girls, so when she tells the parents of boys that she can arrange a meeting with Tom Feeney, it gives me the eebbie-jeebies.
Anyway, I believe her daughter got a full scholarship but in a conversation with her, she was adamantly sure that her daughter would never be sent to Iraq to fight. After a while, I doubted that her daughter had any commitment to the military at all.
The second person got a scholarship to the Citadel and that one is definitely not required to serve time with the military.
So, does anybody know how they allocate military scholarships?

1. A series of physical tests plus grades followed by Senator sponsor |

gets you in the pool for the 3 military schools. The schools then choose.
the Citadel is a private school that seems to get a pass on OTC for its grads that want to go into the military.

I don't think the Citadel works that way unless you join the reserves and or ROTC while you are there.
