troophelper.com (Argon Technologies) thinks that supporting the troops
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 10:26 PM by Bouncy Ball
pisses off liberals.

In this week's copy of the Dallas Observer, there is an ad which reads: "Piss off your liberal friends. Troophelper.com"

I was curious so I checked them out.

http://www.troophelper.com

They apparently offer phone and internet service and donate a small amount to the troops ($1.00 per account per month).

And apparently they think doing that pisses off liberals. I wrote them an email (sales@troophelper.net) which reads as follows:

Hello.

I have a question for you. I found your web address in an ad in the Dallas Observer, a weekly independent publication in Dallas. The ad read "Piss off your liberal friends. TROOPHELPER.COM"

So I went to your website. I see that you sell phone and internet service and that you send money to help support the US troops in Iraq.

My question: exactly how does that piss off liberals?

You obviously assume that liberals are pissed off at any attempt to support the troops.

That is insulting and dishonest of you. My husband and I are liberals and proud of it. He is a veteran. 11 years active duty in the US Army. He served during Desert Storm. He's proud of his service, and so am I. Why in the WORLD would you think supporting the troops would piss off liberals?

I have put together more care packages for the troops than I can count. I've organized huge efforts to buy and send them pre-paid phone cards. My own brother-in-law is there, in Mosul, with the Oklahoma National Guard. HE is a huge liberal and a Democrat.

You might want to re-think your advertising strategies. Your aim is noble, but your ad convinced me immediately that I would NOT be a customer of yours. Any company as narrow-minded as yours will never have my business, no matter how laudable your goals.

Liberals support the troops. What we don't support is the administration that is using them in an immoral and improper manner.

Get it right. I support the troops because I watch carefully what the government does with them in the first place. They can be used properly and improperly and when they are used improperly, you can bet, as the wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter of veterans, that I will scream bloody hell about it.

I will be posting the name of your organization on several websites with very high traffic and letting those thousands of users know that you feel that liberals are pissed off when people support the troops. Argon Technologies would do well to re-think its marketing strategies.

End email.

I think I will also email them to ask them exactly how the money is sent to the troops, what it goes toward, etc.

Oh and feel free to send them emails if you wish. Their advertising is COMPLETELY insulting.

On edit: please see my post in this thread further down for better contact information.

1. They won't change their tune but would spin what we say back to them.
Better to make our own website and promote the living daylights out of it... IMHO, of course.

2. What do you mean?
I am also emailing them the link to this post. I want them to see all this posted for 60,000 + people to read (who knows how many lurkers?).

I asked them just how the $1 is used--where it goes to, who gets it. I asked if they use it to help armor the vehicles or buy the troops personal body armor, because that would help them more than anything other than bringing them home.

9. Wes Clark bloggers raise 100,000 minutes for troops at Walter Reed
(as opposed to giving a money-sucking corporation $5 for a magnetic ribbon).

Yeah - liberals HATE our troops! :eyes:

Piss your liberal friends, support the troops,

What a brilliant idea! NOT... As a wife of a USN Veteran who served his country loyally for 20 years, his last posting on the battle line both after September 11 and during Iraqi Freedom, I think you have your facts wrong.

By the way, why should supporting the troops piss me off? Explain this one to me. I have sent more material to troops than I can keep count off. I have put care packages for them. I even sent basic supplies to the battle line since the supply system is a tad broken, after being asked to do such by the command. I took up the slack for young wife's who could not afford it. I spent many a sleepless night knowing that if a car showed up at night, with an officer and a Chaplain that was bad news.

So you want to support the troops, that is laudable. But using the troops for partisan goals is disgusting.

By the way, I will make sure my email friends, some of them still in the military, know of your stance. None of us will pick up your service... and if you truly want to support the troops, you would not use them for partisan goals.

Sincerely,

XXXXX
USN Navy Veteran wife.

oh and the email bounced... out of mind out of sight.

But just in case they are monitoring this thread, here is the info... I am sure they did not turn it off on purpose... after all that may kill legitimate bidnezz

6. Here's my email to them:
I’m a liberal. I’m also the wife of a desert storm veteran, the daughter of a Korean War veteran, and the granddaughter of a WWII veteran. I support the troops. However, I am also a liberal Democrat, and therefore will NOT be requesting your service. I will also be telling all my friends NOT to patronize your business. Supporting the troops is not liberal or conservative, it’s American. By the way, your advertising sucks. I hope you go bankrupt.

Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 10:21 PM by Bouncy Ball
support@troophelper.net

I also called their Texas toll free number, left a message in which I read my original email (but didn't sound like I was reading it) and I routed it for urgent marking.

Nevermind. That email address bounced, too.

And from the sound of their answering machine, they are truly a rinky-dink operation.

Here is the company's main website:

http://www.argontech.net/

Check out that stuff on the main page about their response to 9/11. They even give you bush's email address to tell him you are behind him!!! :puke:

The email addresses I found there were support@argontech.net and sales@argontech.net

I am going to try those. They are based in Texas.

12. Hi there Bouncy. I saw the same ad and just hadn't checked it out
yet. Thanks for doing so and for the oh, so eloquent letter you wrote to them. I just wasn't up for checking them out. I was mad at the Observer for even running the damned ad. Once again, thanks for all you do.

13. I know, right!
Page 14 of this week's Observer. I saw it and thought "What the HELL is this?"

They seem really rinky dink anyway, but why not give 'em hell for thinking they can play politics with the troops (typical of right wingers, isn't it?).

16. "Wireless DSL"...
...sounds like an oxymoron to me.

To be honest, I'm not too concerned about this company. The prices on their services are out of this world, and most of the "Argon Technologies" websites look like they haven't been updated since the Clinton administration.

17. I know, LOL!
I was kind of chuckling when I looked at their two sites. Like I said a couple of times above, they definitely don't look very big time to me, but why not give 'em hell for politicizing support for the troops?
