US special forces 'inside Iran'
The American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has claimed that US commandos are operating inside Iran selecting sites for future air strikes.

In the latest edition of the New Yorker, Hersh says intelligence officials have revealed that Iran is the US' "next strategic target".

Hersh says that American special forces have conducted reconnaissance missions inside Iran for six months.

1. I just saw the link to the Hersh story on FR

I had a strange experience this evening. I couldn't get on to DU for some reason. No link, no page, nothing. This gave me some time to peruse an Altavista search over DU to see if I could find contacts.

Then I tried a link that landed me on FR.

Then I saw this article.

This is wonderfully horrible stuff. They are complaining about treason and lying in the article. I am complaining about the fact that this is a new and dangerous step for tabloid journalism. How bad is this article, with talking about war plans?

I await the world's response to this. This is very edgy, even for the radical tabloidists.

On edit:

The link to the original story:

2. Amazing
"Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz believe that, just as with some Soviet-bloc countries, "the minute the aura of invincibility the mullahs enjoy is shattered ... the Iranian regime will collapse," the consultant said."

Kick in the door and the whole rotten facade with come crashing down.

Now, where have i heard that before ?

3. This is more stuff to be afraid of
Iran actually may have nukes. This may also start conflict with the rest of the world for the United States.

Iran has more internal conflict, and the radicals are losing their grip. However, the United States has the same image that NAZI Germany had to the rest of the world in WWII. I really hope that this is not going to happen now. We could lose the whole war, or even the world, over this...

4. I agree.
This is very much the path we are going down. People who expect domestic political opposition to stop this are underestimating the seriousness of the problem with our new form of government.

5. Well, they've been 100% wrong
on everything else they've told us, I expect they are 100% wrong on this too. Such myopic thinking has been their trademark from day one. They're like a dog that won't let go of the towel, even when they are dangling in mid air.
