GW Bush celebrates his relationship with MLK jr (pass this around today!)
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/01/20020121-1.html#

this video link was missing from whitehouse.gov until a few months ago when somebody apparently pointed out the holes in their archive.
Use it wisely while you can. Not ONE black voter should have pulled the lever for GW, and this event should be the first question out of every journalists mouth today, particularly if they are confronting either Powell or Condisleeza.
share it today with those you know.

1. I wouldn't tell anyone to do, but you've got a good point.
Here's a nice cheery quote:

That faith gave Dr. King the grace to forgive, and the strength to love. He refused to answer hatred with hatred, or meet violence with violence. He appealed not to resentment, but to reason; not to anger, but to conscience. He was on this earth just 39 years. On the last night of his life, he did seem to sense that grave danger was lying in wait. But he trusted in the ways of providence, not fearing any man, certain that no man could ever finally prevent the purposes of Almighty God.

2. He liked MLK so much that he co-opted MLK's day for his own
coronation.

Not only should you hit the website to see what he said in his opening comment, you should DEFINITELY watch the video to see for yourself he was making a typical GW joke. The overwhelming majority of people who hear this story ALWAYS disbelieve the fact that is was an intentional act of jest on the part of Satan's son. But when they view the video that doubt is replaced by a faint hope that it was not so. The first thing anyone says is-"well he is a poor speaker, fumble mouth, ..." whatever, but NO! this was intentional!
The next thing the supporters will say is "Well the media would have said something if it was so" lol. Followed by "well the family of MLK didnt complain" which is a fairly weak limb to climb onto considering GW was NOT invited to succeeding ceremonies by the family, although he crashed them. I WANT THIS PART OF HIS HISTORY ENGRAVED ON GW's "legacy" and headstone when he returns to Hell.

Mrs. King, thanks for this beautiful portrait. I can't wait to hang it. (Laughter.)
Watch the video while you can and make sure many others do today!

5. Absolutely revolting.
And I'm sure Mrs. King didn't appreciate being seated directly BEHIND the chimp, instead of standing next to him. It was, after all, supposed to be about her husband.

8. Did you see the look on her face when she was talking to him?
I would bet that she was talked into this. She obviously didn't want to be there. For a moment there, I was sure she was going to bitch-slap him. if only...
I wonder if this was one of the reasons the NAACP would have nothing to do with him?

Hanging Martin Luther King and The Emasculation of Civil Rights
January 22, 2002

On Monday, January 21, 2002 George W. Bush signed a proclamation declaring Martin Luther King Jr. "a modern American Hero." Before he did, however, he received a present from King's widow, Coretta Scott King. It was a portrait of the late, great civil rights leader mounted in a beautiful frame.

Mr. Bush, presumably with his political base in mind, started his speech by saying, "Well, thank you all very much for coming. Mrs. King, thanks for this beautiful portrait. I can't wait to hang it."

The double-entendre was blatant, he was making light of his reputation as a "Hanging Governor" in Texas and slyly referencing the good old days of the lynch mob. To my utter astonishment the assembled crowd laughed!

View the transcript yourself.

I don't care if he went on to praise MLK to the skies afterward, this latest attempt at low brow humour appalled me. It ranks up their with his mocking of Karla Faye Tucker before she was executed and after she had begged for her life. It reminds me of his "Lucky me, I hit the trifecta" comment after revealing that all three requirements (national emergency, war, recession) he needed to raid the Social Security surplus had so fortunately been met.

It also brings back the memory of those ugly days of the Reaganaut Dynasty. In 1983, Ronald Reagan signed the MLK holiday into law. It was an obvious attempt to broaden his political base in a transparent fashion, for he supported none of the causes of civil rights and, indeed, was the figurehead sock puppet of a criminal empire that was busy creating a crack epidemic in the midst of the black community. It was an idea steeped in the duplicitous political back rooms where Lee Atwater held court and where the squat bug Karl Rove was created. Mollifying blacks on the surface with a grand display while continuing to polarize the nation by encouraging their base to continue their assault on diversity in all it's forms.
