LOL! Check out the "Selective Service" (draft) website--happy draftees!
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 11:23 AM by Inland
http://www.sss.gov/Default.htm

Look at the graphics--happy young people who are kickin' to the draft, yeaH!

Not just happy--guitar playing cool and happy! Except for the guy with highlighted spikes--he is shit eating grin happy!

It's like an ad for antiperspirant showing how great the product is, except for one thing. None of the guys pictured are shown getting girls because of their use of the selective service system. Why not? I mean, is it any weirder to believe that being inducted makes chicks available than to believe it makes you happy in any other way?

One exception--one unhappy guy on the far right. Well, his cap is on backwards and baggy pants, so we see the problem--he is a druggie or gang member, and a draft will shape him up right quick! See, anyone who isn't happy about being drafted NEEDS to be drafted! Catch 22, anyone?

ON EDIT: Can't find a single person in uniform on the site. Amazing that the one picture that sums up a draft--a young man in uniform--the one sight that is a kick in the gut to his mother--is nowhere to be found.

2. The woman on the left seems to be saying "whats the big deal?"
Of course, women have never been drafted so why _should_ she worry?

6. Satire can't keep up with awful reality
The key to success of Bush is that few can believe just how cynical and evil he is, until it is too late.

7. They can't even put in a person in uniform.
The site is trying to downplay ANY difference between being a civilian and being a soldier.

Why? Are they ashamed of soldiers?

Or do they realize that potential inductees are clued into the Bush misuse of the military?

Who is the target for happy civilians except for the one druggie who needs to be shaped up?

10. Patience grasshopper.
Personally, I think it would be a BIG mistake for anyone to attempt to hack a govt site. Feds are not known for their sense of humor on this subject.

Having said that, once the draft kicks in I'm sure lots of teen computer-geeks will be attacking that site.

12. But he is the druggie who is going to be shaped up in the Army
He isn't unhappy because of the draft. He is unhappy because his cap is on backwards, his pants are baggy, and he is obviously on drugs. He will THANK us for drafting him and shaping him up.

So if you are happy to be drafted, good, if not, it will do you good and you will eventually thank us, even better. Drafts are win-win-win.

13. Yeah, shit happens. Dumb presidents, dumb wars, wasted young people
Just because shit happens doesn't mean we have to be happy about it, and doesn't mean that an asshole adminstration gets to pretend we and the draftees are happy about it.

Let's try to keep America from eating shit every day, okay? Let's try not to shrug off 1300 Americans dead for Bush idiot wars as shit happening? And for God's sake, don't bring up your hardship in filling out a form 35 years ago as relevant. It makes you look like a dick.

23. You didn't have to.
Your entire post is dismissive, writing off forcing another population to die in service of Bush's crap war as "shit happens."

YOu minimize their burden as you bring up what MIGHT have happened to you and what you MIGHT have done.

Shit didn't happen to you, so you're pretty much okay with things.

Mind if I don't join in your "shit happens" deep philosophy when someone is being asked to die for Bush's mistakes? Mind if dead Americans bothers me enough to I don't write it off as "shit happens?"

when the BFEE is in charge.

'official' ( yeah, right) US body count for this little war is 1367.

That's a lot of shit happening, isn't it, "incredible"?

A lot of oil flowing into the BFEE hands...

27. Did Rummy auto sign a letter that said: "Shit happens, war is messy?"
The contempt that the Bush supporters show for the dead Amiericans is amazing. A funeral face turns into a dismissive shrug when Bush's decisions are challenged.

28. Interesting
Puts me in mind of a twenties something young chicken hawk war monger acquaintance of mine telling me he would go to war if called upon. And he turns to his mommy and says "Isn't that right Mommy."

War is a messy business Shit happens.

Yes it do. Try it sometime.

29. Mistakes were made.

Shit Happens.

I was just following orders.

We had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 election.

These are all great quotes, right? One thing though, some of us don't look at it as "shit happening" as much "some asshole conned us on WMD and used 911 sentiment, fear, and bullshit to lie us into a war for oil."

21. "They doth protest to loudly"
The article on the first page is SO reassuring about how we aren't going to re-instate the draft and even has proof! Congress didn't pass a bill! Now I feel better!

My guess is the SS dosen't need a bill to pass in order to start calling up draftees. Some kind of national emergency will do the trick quite nicely.

So you can register online AND verify your registration?

Gee, ya think we could do the same thing for VOTER REGISTRATION????

If it works well enough to control future cannon fodder, it works well enough for the electoral system, I think.
