I saw the Manchurian Candidate last night |
|
not the Frank Sinatra classic, but the new one with Denzel Washington. It was pretty good movie but could such a storyline be applied today?
For Example (again assuming you have seen the movie) this is the idea that ran through my mind when I finished the movie.
Replace "Manchurian Global" with the Carlyle Group.
Bush is actually a sleeper President.
Once his tenure is done Jeb will take the helm.
Meanwhile the Carlyle group runs the show with daddy as the puppeteer.
LOL, sorry for the conspiracy theory lunacy guys :D
I'm still just trying to figure out how in the world this man gets a free pass with the atrocities on his resume.
Ok, I'm done venting.

2. I thought about the same thing when I saw it recently... |

Perhaps not involving the Carlyle group specifically, but the whole notion of brainwashing, etc. and how it relates to Bush et al. I think it would definitely be possible. I understand your incredulity about how Shrub kepts getting a 'free pass' on all the crap he throws out. Maybe there was a mass KoolAid handout, that wiped their brains clean of any sense and reason, and all the Repubs drank? Can't figure it out otherwise...

But I think one thing is for sure. The Bushes want to make our democracy into a monarchy.
Only descendants of BUSH can lead. :puke:

for the original. We are so jaded to technology that the movie didn't seem that big a deal. But the original was "ahead" of its time with the brainwashing theme. Most people didn't know that was going on, and they probably thought "do you think that could really happen?"

5. Not lunacy, remember "Meet John Doe" the Frank Capra classic |
|
...from the early 1930's. It starred a very young Barbara Stanwick and Gary Cooper and addressed a very real problem from that time, the threat of fascism taking over in America. That movie could be redone today with practically no changes made to the plot or the story.

6. I was sorry that the Heinz ketchup bottle didn't make an appearance |
|
They used that in the original film (nifty product placement when Iselin was trying to pick a number he could remember!). This time around, the connection to THK would have been quite amusing ... but they went with GMO tomatoes instead.
