I mean we are in a war in Iraq with many angry Muslims. So what does the Catholic church do? Send a bishop. And now they are mad because he was kidnapped.

Talk about reflexively attacking the catholic church when you are almost completely ignorant of the facts. He was not a Roman catholic biship, he was a bishop in the syrian church (they throw around titles like "archbishop" a lot). He was kidnapped in front of his own church. he lived there.

2. Believe it or not, Catholics were allowed to worship freely in Iraq

for probably hundreds of years. Last Christmas was the first time that Catholics were encouraged to stay home because it was too dangerous to go to mass.

"Officials estimate that as many as 15,000 Iraqi Christians have left the country since August, when four churches in Baghdad and one in Mosul were attacked in a coordinated series of car bombings. The attacks killed 12 people and injured 61 others.Another church was bombed in Baghdad in September."
