How does one stay away from apathy?
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 03:10 PM by ck4829
I can't help it, I've started to care less and less.

I found myself saying shortly after the election, "If people want to keep having the man who failed to prevent the terrorist attacks of 9/11 as President, fine". I didn't mean fine as in I'm OK with it, I meant it as "I really don't care anymore".

When I first joined DU and created Anti-CNP, I was eager to help put a stop to Anti-American RW'ers, evil Dominionists, Pat Robertson and his cohorts, and the American Dictator known as Bush.

My excitement increased over time, and I believed we could beat these Fascists. I still believed it even when I heard about Diebold and the Swift Liars started to spin their lies.

On Election Day, there was electricity in the air. All over Columbus Ohio, there were people with their signs calling for Bush's ouster. This was, and still is, true Patriotism.

That night, when I heard that John Kerry was ahead in the exit polls, I was satisfied that my job was done. I believed the criminals would be held accountable for their crimes.

Kerry lost through Fraud and/or Fear. Both of these tactics are evil, and this is proof that Bush is both a Fraud and a Fear-Monger.

The 'majority' of the People don't want security, they don't want Morals, they don't want Progress, and they don't want Honesty in Government, it's because they just want some likable Cocaine Cowboy as President. Frankly, I can't do anything anymore because the people want that.

1. Go to a protest...
or meet up with like-minded individuals. There is a LOT of energy and it can actually be fun.

2. Think beyond electoral politics
Social change happens lots of other ways besides the ballot box.

4. Hang in there, surely we can't go much lower.
When we wrestle our constitution from their grip it will be a great victory. We will be able to put safe guards so this can't ever happen again. I know it doesn't look like it but we have something to look forward to. The harder the battle the sweeter the victory. One problem with this line of thought is we are running out of time. Now I'm getting depressed...

5. For me:
By focusing on where there is equal but seperate power - the congress. They pass the laws that * signs, we need to (and can perhaps more effectively) influence their decisions. We can shut down much of * (though not all) by getting the word out on anything he is wanting passed.

I understand the feeling all to well on a personal level. My mom died New years eve, and for over a week I just didn't see things well or right. Why live only to die, why care about this that or the other. I dealt with those feelings and am moving on to enjoy what I DO have and what I CAN do.

We can work hard on the core issues - evangelize if you will. Leave pamphlets in bathrooms, and so on. We have to start somewhere in getting the word out beyond this screen on DU to the masses in a way they will be receptive (ie, to me, screw attacking * - let's attack his ideals without a name attached so people who did vote for him don't feel that auto-defense thing going up. Make it about them and the issues, etc)
