Mob journalism / Mobcasting
Two related ideas from Danny Schecter.

** MOB JOURNALISM OR OUR PARTICIPATORY NEWS FUTURE?
The latest contender in the debate over citizens journalism, Take Back the News, goes one further by actually launching a website that puts to the test the ongoing, and frequently ponderous, speculation over participatory journalism. Calling itself a news sharing community, Take Back the News allows citizen members to act as editors, reporters commentators and editorialists by posting news items for others to rate and respond to.

** COMING SOON TO A MOB NEAR YOU
Andy Carvin discusses mobcasting -- combining mobile phone-enabled podcasting with smart mob-like group action to cover events simultaneously and from a variety of perspectives. Mobcasting would also allow groups of citizens to distribute their coverage instantaneously to a centralized website via RSS. "This leads to coverage by bloggers throughout the blogosphere," writes Carvin, "which leads to coverage by the mainstream media, which leads to demands of accountability by the general public. That's mobcasting."
