Young Democrats
Hello,

Recently I started a Young Democrats Club(YDC) at my highly Conservative Catholic school. The problem is this:

What are some activities that i can get my club involved in?

thanks for your ideas in advance,
-KJ

2. Do not make it a Liberal/Conservative label thing
Keep from using labels. Read and present things from the progressive Catholic publications (e.g. Catholic Reporter). Make it a many-issue presentation. Many more conservative Catholics are hung up on those "five" issues.

Show them there is more than just abortion to worry about. Push the point of the GOP failures even though they support overturning Roe vs Wade. Push the point that overturning RvW will NOT stop abortions like it or not. Just as many to more abortions will be stopped by raising the bottom parts of society, which the GOP is failing with right now. The more services, the less likly women are to choose abortion.

Use the broad based approach, stay cool, and keep up on the issues. There is lots of needless mudslinging and division going on by some factions. Ignore it and keep to your social issues points. Work on uniting on common issues, and do not allow yourself to be divided.

3. You might drop the big five issues right off the back,
get some people thinking about the Democratic party beyond our stand on those five (whatever they are), and then come back to them later.

4. The 5 issues
brought up by ultra-conservative Catholics are:

Abortion, Embronic Stem Cell Research, Cloning, Euthansia, and Gay Marriage

You cannot often get them to debate beyond these five.
