Should DU shut down for the day on January 20th?
http://www.bushblackout.com/

On January 20th, 2005, Millions of People around the World will protest the Inauguration of George W. Bush in one form or another. How will you make your voice heard? BushBlackOut.com is suggesting that you be heard through your silence by blacking out your website or blog for the day and displaying a short message of protest.
=============================================================

I would vote NO, but I'd like to hear what others think.

7. HORRIBLE IDEA!!!!!!!
I'm another NO vote, where will people go to register their dismay, to make their comments, to cheer on those lining the streets in protest? This is a place for dissent against the administration--I say stage a virtual protest right here!!

I also vote 'no.'
When I participate in 'Not One Dang Dime Day,' I'm going to limit it to not purchasing anything. Since I'm a student, going to work is not a problem. I say that we can still send quite a message without shutting the DU down; we don't want to frustrate ourselves, just send a message.

10. Why in the world should we shut down our voices?
That seems to me to be a real "cut off your nose to spite your face" protest. That day -- of all days --our blogs and websites should be loudly objecting to every sordid detail of this disgusting extravaganza.

33. I agree with you
but it doesn't seem to be any more "cut off your nose to spite your face" than the Not One Damn Day idea. Why should I inconvenience myself by not buying things on the 20th if that is when I need the product or service I want?

11. um, isn't our silence what the junta wants?
Nah, I say we make a racket and offer an alternative to the media circus for bush* to all the the huddled masses yearning to THINK free.

Maybe a post-a-thon of bush*s biggest lies and anit-American policies would be better?

17. No, but ...

Temporarily altering the background color to black might be a good idea.

I remember this being done in the past, organized by the Center for Digital Democracy, in protest of that decency act thing.

I did it for my own website and got a great response.

But I like the idea of a one-day blackout of my personal site. There's not much political info there right now, anyway, so a black homepage with a brief message and a link to DU might be just the thing....

30. Not a chance
We will need each other that day as much or more than any other day. I think if i was Skinner i'd not only have DU up, but i'd have the collection plate in the front of the room. I know it's "buy nothing day" but i'd make an exception for anything like DU. January 20th starts the second round in a long, bumpy, and dangerous ride. We're going to need DU as never before.
