Is it 1970 again already? |
|
I bought some 1970 magazines at a recent antique sale. The articles are so timely that it floored me. Take a look:
1. An article by Eugene McCarthy on what makes a good Supreme Court justice (hint, none of the current one have any of it).
2. An article by Shirley Chisholm on how she has faced more discrimination as a woman than as black. (Harvard's president is right on the timeline this week.)
3. An article on the new birth control for men, called "vasectomy"(!). One man, recently back from Vietnam, said he chose it because he did not want to create any more cannon fodder for the Army.
4. An article on the backlash against Women's Lib, one anti-lib group run by the infamous Lucianne Goldberg. The article's subjects have plenty to say, such as "Women's Libbers are Dykes, Hags", etc.
I am completely freaked that the Repubs have managed to erase the last 35 years of our lives, along with all progress and knowledge acquired since then, especially in science. I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone episode.

1. In some ways it's like the 70s again |
|
but without the acid and the Grateful Dead making it bearable.

3. Yeah, I just ask my dad. |

He said all these battles have been fought already but we are right back to zero. The one that really pisses me off is the idea that contraception is murder. Un-fucking-believable. :grr:

|

5. I know, it's absolutely frightening |

I've always been fascinated by losses of major chunks of knowledge throughout history (the Egyptians had indoor plumbing, etc. and it took us thousands of years to get it back) and wondered how it happens. THIS is how it happens.

that the repugnant party has always (since I've been alive) been oppressive non progressive, old fashioned, whatever. They want things to be they way they used to be whatever that means. I mean we're still debating Creation and Darwinism.
