"An Iraqi girl screamed..."

An Iraqi girl screamed Tuesday after her parents were killed when American soldiers fired on their car when it failed to stop, despite warning shots, in Tal Afar, Iraq. The military is investigating the incident.

Right in front of her. I've seen the rest of the pictures.

In other news, 6 more future insurgents were created today, and 4 Americans were mentally scared for life.

78. No, and nor will I.
The fact that the citizens of this country
have allowed these things to be done in
their names, with their tax dollars is UNFORGIVABLE.
Perhaps acceptance of that fact will bring some
much needed humility to the the grossest, most
ignorant and arrogant society to ever marr the planet.
Ameikkka, the hideous needs to look in the mirror
and do some serious soul searching, if there are any souls
left in this country. Personally I think they have all been
sold to the devil.

Americans killed her parents. That's her reality. That's what she will grow up (if she's lucky enough to grow up) remembering.

19. Soldiers ought to do the right thing
and quit. They CANNOT win and the US government cannot help them. I feel awfully horribly bad for each and everyone of them but its the wrong war. Not wrong place or time just wrong war. There is never a justification for killing civilians, not even the time honored "we couldn't tell the difference between fighter and civie"
If you can't tell the difference then its way past time to go. :argh:

and welcome to DU. :hi: I feel the same way at this point. The only way for this madness to end is for the military to walk off the field. It's really in their hands because the power brokers are to awash in the idea of money and more importantly(IMO) face-saving. It's up to the military now.

26. I recently read
about a family that went back to Iraq to visit relatives and take them money since everything is such a mess there. One daughter spoke of a similar incident nearly happening to them. She said it's difficult to know what the soldiers want. Often it creates panic with not knowing what to do. They ended up with guns pointed at them and they thought they were going to be shot.

It's an awful situation for our soldiers and for the innocent civilians.

89. Michael Moore's "F-911" shows a house search...
Lot of confusion...lot of chaos...and A LOT of screaming...

I saw another video clip of a house search (or am I remembering "F-911"?) where amid the confusion, chaos, and screaming, an Iraqi man, about 60 years old, kept repeating something the US troops couldn't understand, and began to crouch. One American kept screaming at him to hold still while another, with rifle trained on him, kept shouting "I can take him out! I can take him out..!!!"

Fortunately, the Iraqi man was not "taken out" and the translation of what he was saying over and over while he was crouching? He wanted to pray...

It seems we can't even let them make peace with their God before we murder them...

66. I was trying to look at both sides,
something you seem to be incapable of doing. But when I hear dead booby-trapped bodies have been used to blow up our troops, I do think they need to proceed cautiously. It is a war, I am an American, and these could be our sons and daughters. I have every sympathy for the Iraqis who are killed, but be realistic. There are people over there out to kill soldiers, and apparently our soldiers are having a hard time telling the difference.

91. all the more reason to just get our soldiers out
and I am looking at both sides.

There is nothing to be gained there anymore and everything to be lost...too many horror stories.

I can't help but feel for the people whos home & country has basically been invaded through no fault of their's and their lives shredded. We have NO business being there and I can't imagine how I would react if an army came to my town and did what our troops have done.

Anyone ever consider the language difference not to mention the culture difference in trying to communicate ??

The best solution I can see is to get our troops the hell out and let Iraq put itself together- if possible......it is so sad and such a waste- on both sides.

101. There are people over there out to kill soldiers??!
I am going to HURL :puke: :puke:.

And just what do you think our soldiers are there for in their eyes?

Maybe the Iraqis have a hard time telling the difference after all the atrocities some of our soldiers have been committing and their utter lack of respect for the Iraqis, their culture, their country, the meager possessions they still have. Maybe that's why they're afraid to stop.

I'd be damn afraid to stop too after knowing what the IDF, our sister Army in methods, has been doing at checkpoints. I'd be damn afraid my wife was pretty and that Yankee horny. Shit. If you care about our soldiers- GET THEIR ASS HOME!

Many Iraqis are afraid of the hormones, the killer rage, and the perverted sense of superiority of "our sons and daughters".

Lyndie England was such a wholesome American GI.

111. So your suggestion is?
I will state categorically I am opposed to this war and have always been so. But don't our soldier representatives, and whether you believe it or not, they are representative of the US, deserve to defend themselves? I don't know what 'really' happened in this situation, but I'm just putting myself in one of those soldier's boots. In some situations, I'm sure they believe it's either them or me.
I feel terrible for the Iraqis and all the hurt, death and destruction that has been done to them by yes, our US forces, but my blame is going towards BushCo for that. Specifically, since you mention L. England, whoever was responsible for these flaming 'holes that abused anyone in the way they did. Again, my wrath is w/Shrub. It all happened UNDER HIS WATCH.

How many articles from embeds featured interviews with soldiers plainly stating: "yeah, we've killed a lot of innocent people out here, tough shit, I guess, but you never know what the ragheads want."

Ever since stories like this started to come out, along with the Marines executing that hapless wounded partisan in Fallujah, you don't hear much from embeds anymore. Coincidence? I think not.

Iraqis know ALL about how our troops treat detainees.
Do you really doubt why they were afraid to
stop when their children were in the car?
Put yourselves in their shoes, fully cognizant
of the horrible acts being inflicted on civilian detainees
and ask yourself what you would do if a bunch of thugs
ordered you to stop?
There is only one side to this story and that is
WE ARE WRONG- WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE THERE.

Haven't you seen any of the footage of this illegal war? Iraqi's don't speak English, and our wonderful gov't seems to think that it's unecessary to give them ARMOR or teach them the basics of the language.
Watch the documentary "Control Room." Gain some perspective.

In Iraq, holding up a hand to stop a vehicle is the equivalent of waving hello to them. (From Control Room) What do you think of that? Maybe that's why they didn't stop.

25. This photo will NOT be on 1A of our newspapers.
It will NOT be held up by a Bush administration official giving testimony about the brutality of a mad dictator.

It will NOT be used as a springboard for editorials in the NYT, Washington Post, or other major US papers.

It will NOT be circulated by Focus on the Family or by right-wing email chains asking for prayers to be said on her behalf.

This girl will NOT be invited to the White House for a photo op. No Amber alerts will save her, and her face will not appear on milk cartons or CNN.

This girl is NOT a worthy victim of a US enemy. She is an unworthy victim, because her parents failed to stop when an English-speaking soldier told them to stop. She is an unworthy victim because she lived in a town called Tel Afar which has a big oil pipeline. She is an unworthy victim, because she was a speck of sand that got in the way of Exxonmobil and Halliburton and Paul Wolfwowitz and the puppet.

She will hate us for OUR FREEDOM.

Remember the picture of the little girl running aimlessly down the road? If I remember correctly, she was naked and the village behind her had been napalmed!

That might be why we won't see much of that (Iraq) picture on the news.

43. Every Time I See Pictures Like This...
I see my own children. How can anyone not see themselves in all of this madness? I doubt very much that we will see these on "World News Tonight". We wouldn't want people to tap into their conscience now would we? Maybe George Soros could by up some billboard space and force America to look at these horrors.

46. Exactly
IMO, many more people would be against the war if they saw pictures like this, which show the suffering of innocents. These pictures also humanize the Iraqis and make it hard for Americans to think of them just as the enemy. It would be damn near impossible to get strong support for the war if people saw the Iraqis as fellow humans.

I think not. Normal, everyday, people seem to be nothing more than nuisances to the MSM. Then you have the phenomenon I like to call "The Vast Public Conspiracy". If alot of people send the same pictures it is treated as some sort of mass-emailing campaign and immediately dismissed. I have seen it several times.

62. Put this in perspective ...
... with what the neocons are saying about Iran. Specifically about the split allegedly existing in that nation's soul between religious authoritarianism and democracy and how the US will aid the Iranian democratic forces through military action destabilizing the current leadership.

THIS is what the result of any military attack on Iran (or any other country) will look like. And it won't matter whether an Iranian citizen supports democracy or theocracy, their hatred of the US will unify them in a struggle to the death against American imperialism.

Just how our leaders in both the government and Congress fail to see this is beyond my understanding.

64. Gutwrenching. Sickening. Unnecessary.
We only see 1 percent of the horror.

I can only imagine the terror the Iraqis feel.

People talk about record numbers of soldiers returning to the states with PTSD. If the guys in the armored tanks with the automatic weapons return traumatized, imagine how the unarmed, helpless Iraqis feel.

We've traumatized the Iraqis. It began with "shock and awe" and the nightmare of killing, bombing, initimidatio, chaos and violence has continued for two years for these people--the ones we're "liberating."

I feel helpless. I want to hold this little girl and comfort her.

It's just so awful.

I just want to tell her I'm sorry.

Will they ever forgive us?

103. You miss the point.
You are trying to justify a family massacre.

Who the heck knows at this point in time and with this geographical divide who, what, where, why, and how. It is absolutely absurd to stop and defend either side.

The story is and the point is that we were lied into this war for the greed of a few and we are supposed to play stupid and swallow all this stuff and our poor young soldier souls, who are still probably reeling from what they have been set down in, are scared to death of their surroundings and are probably equally scared to death by some of their comrades and leaders (some of whom may have been killing crazy when they entered the service or who may have been made crazy by what they have seen or done). Young souls who can't even speak the language and who appear to have been given zilch cultural training probably followed orders.

The point is this is an assinine and unnecessary war that we were lied into. Our right wing leaders do not have one neuron in their heads that can hold onto the concept and hard work of exporting peace.

We have people running the war who are hell bent on world domination and what we are doing at this minute is looking at a child with her father or mother's brain on the ground in front of her and monstrously dressed, gun firing, goggled who knows what towering above her.

We will pay. We will pay. We will pay. Because we never learn.

This photo is a perfect link between two futilites because we failed to learn from earlier links.

Americans-U.S. proclaimed superiority is a sham. We are cold murderers - at weddings and in every day life. What did these people do to deserve us?

Vietnam was pointless, a few million Vietnamese casualites, +58,000 dead GIs and it was all for nothing. History repeats itself. We're creating enemies where none existed before. Not a particularly good idea of us in the long run. Probably the best thing we can do is to show the Iraqi people that the US gov. does not represent us and we are as much against this war of occupation as they are. Hopefully the message will get thru and they will not hate us, but realize the enemy is Bush and his meglomanics that control the military and the death squads that are killing the Iraqi people on a daily basis.
