it's SNOWING here in OUR Nation's Capital, ice, cold, more coming
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 12:45 PM by diamond14

at this point, there are TWO major fronts coming into DC, right behind each other...snow is predicted THROUGH the CORONATION !!!!!

at current time, roads are BAD, ice, snow (not a lot compared to MICHIGAN, but a few inches on the ground and still snowing - PEOPLE ARE PANICKED here, which is typical for the one or two snowstorms a year that we get)....those rich reTHUGlicans arriving today are being DELAYED at all airports, with scary rides for those in their PRIVATE JETS.....

it is also COLD....so if you are coming for the CORONATION, please dress warm, thermo-underwear, full winter outfits, gloves, hats, face masks, etc.....it's right now about 16 F with wind-chill....

HAHAHAHAHAHA...bush* rich tex-ASS reTHUGlicans will NOT come out in the cold/snow....so it's just US -the PROTESTORS....last time, in the rain, even the POLICE stayed inside Federal Buildings, so it was ALL OPEN FOR THE COUNTER-Coronation......

DC...Wednesday, January 19, 2005...early, the situation is definitely deteriorating by the hour....

'reviewing stands' for the rich war-profiteers...ice cold....

11. if the second approaching front hits hard, DC will SHUT DOWN..

the DC Metro area is simply not set up to handle snow storms....we only get ONE or TWO or NONE every winter....last week, the temperatures were in the 60's....now, it's ICE COLD.....

when DC gets snow, EVERYBODY PANICS !!!....nobody has snow tires, or snow wipers...no one knows how to drive in the snow, so the roads become a TOTAL DISASTER....there is hardly any snowplows, it's just not worth it to maintain a fleet of plows for the ONE storm....

and nobody knows how to apply salt correctly, or how to walk in snow/ice....for the most part, people just panic and STAY HOME (that especially includes waiters, maids, cooks, servers, etc).....

30. And not a soul there seems to know how to drive in snow/ice
You go to your workcenter, and it's the guys from Buffalo, MN, VT, NH, ME, MA, Montana and so on who show up for work. Everyone else has called in and left a whining message on the answering machine! (I'm plowed in, I can't get out, the roads are too slippery, I can't drive in this stuff....ha, ha, ha!).

And the skidding vehicles...it's almost funny to watch, really. A commute in NH that would be a no-sweat evolution is like demolition derby in MD/DC/NorVA. I especially like it when the dimwits in SUVs drive like it's summertime, and they think they can do that simply because they have an SUV.

And salt!!! You're right, they don't understand the salt and sand thing at all. It's the KEY to efficient road clearing (and keeping the road cleared between plow runs!).

I was in DC when it hit 68 last week. What a difference!

however, even after my youth in Upstate new York, i'm not gonna drive on these streets if it snows. thye don't have salt trucks and that makes it downright deadly.

39. Atlanta was hilarious!
When I lived in Colorado, one winter the evening news broadcast a gloating report on a two-inch snowfall in Atlanta. The high point was some sorry bastard trying to scrape his windshield with a cheap kitchen spatula! I was ROTFLMAO!

We had 12 inches in Halifax on Monday, BTW. Got a three-day weekend!

52. My daughter went to AU
and lived there for 9 years, until about a month ago. Being from Michigan, she laughed at the drivers when it snowed. She was there the year they had a 19" snowfall -- she was home for Christmas and when she got back to DC a couple of days later, there was so much snow! The funny thing was that her bike was parked outside her dorm over a heat grate and all the snow round her bike was melted, but it was everywhere else.

I doubt if the ornamental and ceremonial flash of Dubya's inaugural parties would much impress the soldiers in Mosul who have less armor than they need, or the tsunami refugees without water, food, clothing, and shelter, or the many thousands of Iraqis whose family and friends have been casualties of Bush's war.

All the uneaten food, prepared for all the people whose planes can't get into DC. I hope they at least donate it all to some homeless shelters or something. It's pretty ironic that they insisted on spending $40 million and so much of it will be wasted. Oh, well, he's getting what he deserves. Hope it's a harbinger of what his second term will be like!

just across the Potomac River from DC....03:30 PM

Everything here is TOTALLY MESSED UP...roads are a DISASTER...visibility is LOW, it's still snowing....local radios are telling everyone to STAY HOME, do NOT TRAVEL....

I measured TWO INCHES on the patio (five measurements, all at least TWO inches)...but most of the snow is melting into a nasty MUSH, which is making the roads virtually impassable on even the slightest of hills....sirens are screaming for emergencies, echoing throughout my neighborhood....this MUSH will freeze up tonight into a totally impassable mess....

Kids were all sent home from schools EARLY, DC schools CLOSED early, no classes at any colleges tonight....meetings are being cancelled for tonight on local radio.....

bush* had a BIG outdoor event scheduled this afternoon in the ELLIPSE (that huge park right in front of OUR White House)...haven't yet heard how it went....

ICE COLD seats ready for those rich reTHUGlican FAT-ASSES....
Seats are covered with snow on the stage of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, one day before the second term inauguration of US President George W. Bush.(AFP/Robert Sullivan)

If there's only a few inches they will stay open
It won't be hard to plow the runways for such a small (relatively) amount of snow. If there's deicing to be done, that could delay departures, though. And delayed departures can mean delayed arrivals, if there's a shortage of ramp space. If you are travelling, allow extra time!

59. Reminds me of that poor
homeless WWII vet who froze to death just a few blocks from Raygun's main inaugural ball back in 1984; the ball was another opulent, lavish, expensive boondoggle.

In typical hypocritical repub fashion, Raygun and his cronies paid lip tribute to veterans and the military and their "noble service and sacrifice", yet he had never spent one day in the military himself and he didn't give a damn about veterans like that poor, suffering WWII vet who had given his all for his country and helped to save us from Nazism and the worst forms of fascism. Imagine going through that and then freezing to death on the streets of the capital of the nation that was supposedly so grateful for your service. Twenty years later and it still infuriates me to even think of it!

57. And don't forget Dylan....
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows

66. GWB would look great with a face blackend from frostbite.
We'll see how much his supporters love him. Does Armani make a Snow Suit?
