Anti-Bush movement needs a new Martin Luther King

Tomorrow, there are so many scattered protests that I can't imagine any individual one will make OneDamnDime's worth of difference. There are millions of us who oppose Bush in a way we've opposed no other president before him, but we need an umbrella group and some charismatic leadership so we can speak as closely as possible to one voice.

This week's events made us feel that what the new movement really needs is a new Dr. Martin Luther King. I wrote a lot more about this on my blog in this post: http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/extra/archives/001382.html

1. Read your blog
I agree!! I just said something similiar. It's kind of what people are expecting Obama to do. I think he's a great guy, but he's a politician. He's not shown any fire to bucking the status quo. It has to be someone on the outside but not too outside.

If there was someone to lead us in unity-you are right-that would make a difference. That's why so many were disapointed in Kerry-we need a leader-but again he's still in the system. I hope and have hope in him that he will stand up along with Boxer and others. But it's not enough. Is Dean going to do it?

We are left standing alone, talking to each other, and going nowhere.

2. Sorry to be a contrarian prick...
but I think people need to realize the responsibility for the cause lies in their own hands, and that we shouldn't be waiting for some great knight to come save us. Furthermore, I think we should quit making Bush the primary focal point of our ire. He's not running for office again, so we need to broaden our focus. The goal should be to make "conservative" such a dirty word that members of the GOP will run from it in much the same way that many Democrats hate being labelled a "liberal".
