Did you ask both your Senators to filibuster against Alberto Gonzales?
I have one Democratic Senator and one Republican Senator, and i asked each of them to filibuster against Alberto Gonzales becoming the next US Attorney General.

The odds of my Republican Senator filibustering against that torturer are nil, but I think it's important as a citizen to stand up for human rights, regardless of the odds.

Please ask both your Senators to stop Alberto Gonzales from becoming more powerful.

To contact the office of any Senator:

Phone 1-800-839-5276 (Capitol Hill Switchboard), ask to be transferred to the office of a Senator, and leave a message:

Filibuster against Alberto Gonzalez, because he condones torture.

5. Do you honestly think it would do any good with those two neanderthals?

It would just give their staff something to laugh at. When I want to communicate, I write my congressman, Bennie Thompson, or the state's other Democratic rep, Gene Taylor.

Sorry, contacting Lott or Cochran is WORSE than useless. They're a big part of the problem, why should they be concerned with solutions?

8. I want their staff to know that not everyone agrees with
Bush and Gonzales' torture policies.

4. No (sheepish look)
On the other hand, I used to work on the Hill, and I can say with complete confidence that calls to legislators' offices accomplish preciselyt nothing. I think think it's something citizens should do as part of their civic responsibility, but we shouldn't kid ourselves by suggesting that if somehow every DUer would make a phone call, the world would turn.

7. Yeah, Mel Martinez
Just how much luck do you think I'd have getting a Pulled-Himself-Up-By-His Bootstraps Hispanic Republican to vote against another Pulled-Himself-Up-By-His Bootstraps Hispanic Republican?

As for Nelson, he's cool, but unfortunately, much of the Hispanic community will see any vote against Gonzalez as a vote against a Hispanic. And that would be political suicide for any senator in a state with a significant Hispanic population.

12. Since my senator, Conehead,(Texas) not only introduced Gonzales
but was an apologist for torture in the AG Hearings, no point in telling him.
