Tomorrow, please, let's spend.
I'm not talking about spending money to purchase anything.

Rather, I'm talking about helping the people who are suffering and will continue to suffer in the next few years. The poor, the disabled, the elderly, the homeless, the abused.

Please, if you can, help someone tomorrow in whatever way you're able, whether it's with your money or your time.

  1. Visit a nursing home or assisted living facility (if you don't already do so for a relative).
  2. Help a disabled or poor friend - or stranger.
  3. Visit someone at a hospital (civilian or veteran) or hospice.
  4. Call someone who is lonely.
  5. Help out at a shelter for homeless people, battered women, or abused children.
  6. Visit a pet shelter.
  7. Donate to charities that help people here and around the world.
  8. Think of other ways to help, and add to the list in this thread.
  9. And, as always, write to congressmen about issues that matter.

As individuals, we have collectively been able to contribute much to help the victims of the tsunami. I submit that with effort, we can do much to mitigate the effects of cuts in social programs, health care, and jobs (as well as the effects of war) over the next four years. Every small act counts.

It's the best way I can think of to spend tomorrow - and the years to come.

1. Lovely post. Thanks!
I think I'll be writing some thank-yous tomorrow, to a lot of people who live in DC. That's my alternative to the coronation.

at a local homeless shelter.

Anything to avoid watching the evening news. :-)

We should all be active in our community to help stop the erosion of public services. We have to keep in mind that life for everyone has become that much more difficult.

7. Great suggestions!
I like that you suggest positive action instead of self-satisfied reaction. It is real progressive values at work. :-)
