What's with Republicans and Dumb Presidents?
Consider the last four Republican Presidents:

Gerald Ford - Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but kind of an accidental president so we'll cut them a break here.

Ronald Reagan - Absolute dumbass. Had trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality

George H.W. Bush - The only reasonably intelligent one out of the whole bunch

George W. Bush - Hasn't even mastered basic sentence structure

Why are the wingnuts so fond of dimwitted leaders?

Personally, I could never vote for someone who I feel like I'd have to dumb things down in order to have a conversation with them.

3. Well, it's not like all Republicans are dummies, but . . .
I guess it's because they don't believe in government. They put semi-human apes in the White House and then give them a sledge hammer.

I didn't buy the idea of the withering away of the state for Lenin. I don't buy it from Gover Norquist, either.

Between the two of them, Lenin made the better case.

5. Don't forget dumb vice presidents - especially Quayle
Dan "Potatoe" Quayle - a profound quote to ponder on shrubs's inauguration day:

"Vietnam is a jungle. You had jungle warfare. Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, you have sand. from a historical basis, Middle East conflicts do not last a long time."

6. I guess the GOP idea
is to have people in the White House that will make you feel better about yourself because you know you are smarter and better than even the Chief Magistrate and Commander in Chief. Wow.

9. Republican presidents don't have to have any substance
Although, Nixon was quite intelligence, I would say.

But, especially since Reagan, the truth doesn't matter. Shit, Reagan had alzheimers his second term and people, despite knowing that now, still think that he was alret, aware and in charge.

Republicans tell their voters lies they want to hear, and they invent images.

Think about it.

Just about every facet of the Reagan and Bush II administrations are complete loads of bullshit and overblown lies. Bush and Reagan were "men of the people, someone you could have a beer with?" Not likely. Hell, Bush can't even drink now, because he was an alcoholic for twenty five years!

All Republicans are interested in is the lies they want to hear. They vote for a president's image. And the politicians know this.

And, that is exactly why tomorrow is going to be so disgusting. Bush will give some pathetic speech that is loaded with cliches and lies and will have terrible delivery. But for the next twenty years we will have to listen to pathetic, nostalgic fawning over Bush's immortal words.

If you don't believe me, just ask some sycophant about Bush's speeches after 9/11. Even though they sound like they were ripped off from a collection of bad movies, people praise them.

10. Insults are not analysis
Is this all we have people -- calling the other guy stupid? We aren't the party of Beavis and Butthead. Can't we come up with better reasons to dislike someone other than reverting back to grade school insults. Why not say he smells and has cooties too.

I don't care what the party affiliation is -- you don't rise to the level of president without having some smarts. I think you make the mistake of assuming that because someone has a different opinion than you, that means he or she is stupid. Kind of like assuming a woman is a lesbian just because she doesn't want to go out with you.

So all Republican presidents are stupid and all Democratic presidents are smart. Yes, that explains it all. Thanks for the insight! If that is the extent of our analysis, we are doomed. And also -- how do you explain how these supposedly stupid people (Reagan, Bush I and Bush II) have a combined 20 years of being president? (I'm counting the upcoming four years of course).

11. Would a better phrase be, "no nuance and no vision?"
Because I, personally, think their lack of nuance and of anything other than the corporate vision of America is pretty stupid.

But, I do get your point.

12. Yes
Yes, I think that does start to explain things better. Vision, policies, etc. are things you can hang your hat on. Sorry -- didn't mean to be blunt -- still working on getting my morning dose of coffee in me. Plus, the kids were up a lot last night and I didn't get much sleep.

There's a perverse side to DU that is similar to driving in our cars -- we are anonymous and protected so we might say things we would never say to someone's face. It is liberating but also leads to some flame throwing. Sorry!

13. Thank you for enlightening me

And elevating the discourse with your snarky commentary and various snide insights about things I never actually said, Like:

So all Republican presidents are stupid and all Democratic presidents are smart.

You said that, not me. I believe I named four Republican Presidents. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there were more than four of them.

I think you make the mistake of assuming that because someone has a different opinion than you, that means he or she is stupid.

Speaking of assuming, thanks for the mind read Miss Cleo. And while you're at it, will I find love in my future?

And also -- how do you explain how these supposedly stupid people (Reagan, Bush I and Bush II) have a combined 20 years of being president?

Time to brush up on your reading comprehension. I never said Bush I was stupid. Quite the opposite actually.

I don't care what the party affiliation is -- you don't rise to the level of president without having some smarts.

I'll happily debate that point with you. Our starting point can be Dubya.

But thanks again for the um...whatever it was you were trying to say.
