We need a "Penguin Relief Movement!" this is really, really tragic,
I KNOW they're just penguins, but this really breaks my heart.

World's Largest Iceberg Posing Problems

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - The world's largest iceberg appears to have run aground near Antarctica, posing more problems to scientific bases and penguin colonies, where tens of thousands of chicks face starvation, scientists said Thursday.

"This berg has wedged itself between two shallow areas. ... It really hasn't gotten any closer for a week now," Peterson said. "It's kind of shimmying back and forth now ... so I don't know whether it's ever going to get to the Drygalski or not."

The ice blockage also threatens penguin breeding colonies, with tens of thousands of Adele penguin chicks facing starvation as parent birds are forced to trudge up to 110 miles to open sea to gather food.

1. Poor penguins :(
Maybe we could divert a bomber from Iraq to blow up the opposite side of the iceberg from the penguins and possibly break it up or divert its course?

:( I like penguins dammit :(

2. I can't imagine these poor lil guys walking 200 miles to feed their
lil chicklets.... I hate hearing of anyone or anything suffering.

**sigh**

I mean I KNOW there are SOOOOOOOOOOO many far, far more important things, but this one just makes me really sad.

4. I agree.
There's plenty of other things to worry about, but still. . . everyone (and everypenguin) that suffers at least deserves a little attention.

Hell, just making a huge hole in the ice that they could get into to get fish would be good enough, some minor drilling and explosives would do the trick. Do it a few miles from where they are so it doesn't blow them up in the process, then guide them to it somehow.

I'm sad now :( I'm not as sad as I was with the stories about the military ordering killing of the poor puppies and kitties the soldiers have adopted, but still sad.
