You'll remember that * came out against U Michigan affirmative action case within days of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and appointed Pickering on the Federal bench on MLK Day.. Figured maybe he'd skip throwing a bone to his racist base this year, but he instead let Trent Lott emcee today's inauguration and introduce him.

9. Yes. That's the classic Republican "wink". That wink means
that having the most outspoken racists Republican Senator introduce the President, it assured their all important rank and file white Southern racists constituency, that racism was alive and well in the Republican Party even if, for outward appearances sake, that had to
fire Lott from his leadership position.
