Exothermic gives off heat, endothermic means it sucks up heat.

I usually think of it as "exo" means outside, like "exit." So the heat is leaving the system.

But I was thinking along the lines of a reaction, where an exothermic reaction needs heat applied to it to "kick off" and an endothermic makes it's own "kick-off" heat...
