Sen. Clinton urges use of faith-based initiatives

By Michael Jonas, Globe Correspondent  |  January 20, 2005

On the eve of the presidential inauguration, US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton last night embraced an issue some pundits say helped seal a second term for George W. Bush: acceptance of the role of faith in addressing social ills.

In a speech at a fund-raising dinner for a Boston-based organization that promotes faith-based solutions to social problems, Clinton said there has been a "false division" between faith-based approaches to social problems and respect for the separation of church of state.

"There is no contradiction between support for faith-based initiatives and upholding our constitutional principles," said Clinton, a New York Democrat who often is mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2008.

Apparently you can't take the republican out of a Goldwater Girl from way back...

Fuck you very much, Hillary. I personally LIKE the separation of church and state and do not want a PENNY of my taxes going into ANY church's coffers, no matter what they claim to use it for.

5. Well, actually there is.........

It's called the separation of church and state. Jefferson was really into that little concept. You might want to research it a bit, babe. And stop trying to take the national pulse, you aren't very good at it.

10. Hillary is making a huge mistake...
She is not going to fool the right wingers and will do little more that alienate some of her base. Why don't these people run as who they are. Why is Repug-Lite so alluring to Democrats when they get ambitious? It does not sell well to the Pugs and just loses votes on the left.

13. This *is* who she is.
She was a repug back in her college days.

She latched onto a charismatic conservative democrat.

She concocted a healthcare plan that was a HUGE giveaway to the health insurance industry (but it wasn't enough, so they destroyed that)

She voted for the IWR against the EMPHATIC opposition of the VAST majority of her constituents.

This is par for the course with Hillary, who has never been a progressive, and will continue to be her calling card.

15. The Kicker is...
To the right she will always be a CLINTON, and she will never win them over. All she is doing is losing support on the left.

11. Damn! You people have a short memory.
I say we embrace the faith-based initiatives, AS LONG as they represent ALL faiths, and are not for evangelical purposes. The election was totally screwed with, yes.. BUT we should never have had it so close as it was. I have been harping on this since 9/11, and could probably find some of my old posts to prove it. America has turned STRONGLY relgious after 9/11. As I warned before, the Democrats ignore that at our own peril. As long as we are considered the Godless party, we will never have a majority again.

I am NOT a relgious person.. not in the least. BUT.. it matters to millions of people in America, and it affects our elections. If we all refuse to be a part of initiatives like these, they will STILL happen, but the Republicans will control them. Embrace them, and make it work for all faiths.. and lets see if we can get some help for the homeless, the addicted, the hopeless.
