Jihad ....... what does it means |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 10:08 PM by Oversea Visitor
I follow the congressional hearing of Condi.
I note with disbelief and disgust how Condi can use this world Jihad to brand the insurgent in Iraq.
Jihad ..... means Holy WAR
IS CONDI saying that muslims are fighting a HOLY WAR in Iraq? Does she as the future SoS of US done her homework? Does she believe that US is fighting against all muslim in this world?
I live in Malaysia and it is a muslim country. I am however not a muslim. I see my goverment effort and our religious leader saying Iraq is not Jihad. And now I witness the SoS of US saying it is.
Please this is not a healthy position for the future SoS of US to take. It might be a mistake by her part, an honest mistake, but one which need to be address.
This world has already enough problems without the need for a honest mistake to further create more misconception of the US position.
Please email this to all Senators for me so that this miss.... use of word does not occurred again.

1. Actually, the precise definition of "jihad" |
|
is "spiritual struggle".

but I wont want to go into arguement here. Jihad is a holy war, a call to arms by muslims to fight for a just cause, against evil. If you feel that Condi as SoS of US is correct so be it. If the insurgents are Jihadists so be it. There are 1.3 billion muslim in this world.

but Jihad is used, more often, in connection to a personal struggle.
Usually, a "holy war" is predicated by a Fatwah. I know bin Laden set one down, but, as he's only a cleric in his own reality, I'm not quite sure the entire Muslim community would buy into his Fatwah. If they had, there certainly would have been more terrorism directed toward the United States than has been. (Not saying there hasn't been more than enough, but it's not as rampant as Fox News would have Americans believe.)
There are 1.3 billion muslims. Imagine if they had all obeyed bin Laden's "Fatwah."

13. I understand the literal definition |
|
but one must also consider the connotation of the word.
'Jihad' invokes a very powerful emotion in the minds and hearts of many followers of Islam especially in light of the present situation, and this surely is understood by those individuals who represent the United States in the eyes of the world community.
I agree that it should not be used cavalierly when the entire world is watching and listening.
I was married to a Middle Eastern man for many years and have lived among Moslems here (in America) and in the Middle East, and frankly, I am also quite concerned about the volatile climate which presently exists between the extreme elements of both Christianity and Islam.
Just my perception and my opinion...

2. If only it were that easy... |
|
Our leaders don't listen to us.
There probably are some fighters in Iraq that think they are fighting a jihad... less than 1%.
Condi either doesn't know or doesn't care, and half of America doesn't either. They are going to cause much destruction and hatred, and if they stay in power for a long time, they will run the U.S. into the ground. A United States that behaves this way cannot exist forever.

4. I only wish our senators would LISTEN if we forwarded your concerns! |

How embarrassed I am that this pimping idiot with a doctorate (Condi Rice) is so accustomed to throwing around emoto-words (a made-up term to describe words that elicit strong emotions in the greatest number of viewers) that she gets wrapped around the axle of her own logic.
I'm sorry our government acts so stupidly. At least one half our country are totally unlike the images you see on television, and people like Rice DO NOT speak for us. We KNOW what a jihad is. On the other hand, truth be told, maybe Rice slipped up and told the TRUTH! Maybe they privately DO believe they are fighting a war against Islam.
P.S. Maybe it would be more powerful if YOU wrote to someone. Write to Dr. Rice! TELL her how offensive her statements were. Make it an open letter to the Washington Post. Our illiterate pResident may not read the papers, but I bet SHE does.

8. Condi is a moron like her boss |
|
one of her primary purposes as a bush whore is to mislead the country. Hence her constant references to insurgents, jihad, 9/11, terrorists, 9/11, muslims, war on teror, 9/11.

9. I dont give a shit about that |
|
But I seriously have objections when the SoS of US make this remarks.
It create more tension in my country and put me at risk for the simple fact that as a christian and US is the most powerful christian nation in this world claim that it is a holy war.

10. they lied their way into this war |
|
nothing is beneath them and none of our objections will matter to them - we are now a one party government; we have to concentrate on getting these f***ers out of office. We will be outraged by what they do and say daily.

12. O.k. You did ask, I deliver.... |
|
Just think of it as a moderate, less corrupt muslim version of the neocons and their holy warriors, and you're halfway there. But please don't dig deeper into it. Don't ask, who created the Jihads: the CIA, the christian Neocons and their CIA fighting the holy war against the atheist communinists and women-right defenders in Afghanistan.
Hello from Germany, Dirk
