This is his lowest since in the first few months of his term, when he got as low as 55%. This is well within the margin of error, so basically, he's at his lowest ever approval rating according to ABC News.

More tellingly, I think, is only 55% of people in this poll think "the Bush administration is doing a good job handling the war on terrorism"... down 18 points from a year ago. If he sinks below 50% on that one, he's done. That's the only reason anyone even stands behind the man. They THINK he's doing a good job fighting terrorism (of course we know he's not).

Interestingly, the story also says "Approval of Bush's personal work on the campaign against terrorism remains high, 67 percent." I think what that amounts to is giving him points for "effort".

1. Yes, this poll is always about 5 points higher than others
that means his rating really is around 50 percent if you take the average. Check out www.pollkatz.com and see the approval graph.

2. And he still has nowhere to go but DOWN.
so he can go to the Hague when it's time, after a short fleeing period.

5. Think he'll use a white Ford Bronco?
Even though it's an SUV, I'm not sure if it can make it up to Osama's hideout in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Maybe he can make it to Saddam's safehouse in the outskirts of Tikrit. There, they can swap old war stories, play cards (with the "most wanted" deck, of course), and wile away their retirements wistfully dream about the days when they each had WMD... or W can tell Saddam what it was like, anyway.

3. Well, bring out the butter and slam on the jam, he's toast!
At least I hope so. I'm seeing lots of people who voted for him turning on him now. But we cannot be complacent. It will be a tough election.

4. This doesn't jive with what Gibson said this morning...
on GMA he said that an overnight poll showed Bush's approval rating at 49%. It was in BIG and BOLD and GLORIOUS graphics.

6. I wish I has seen that! But I think their "overnight polling" is separate
...from their full telephone polling they conduct periodically (see http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm; it's up there now, too).

This latest full ABC News poll was ended Sunday. The poll to which you're referring was apparently an overnight poll conducted Sunday night specifically asking about approval following the speech. In any case, it shows that it probably didn't go over too well.

If you have a link to that ABC overnight poll, please post it here!

8. It must've been a different poll
please provide a link if there is one! (BTW, I looked for a transcript and couldn't find it yet.)
