Vignettes from DC on Inauseation Day, 2005
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 05:58 PM by linazelle
Happen to be in DC now. Didn't go to inauseation, barely stomached the news reports five minutes ago. Left to go to dinner on campus and on the way, a woman in a beaded evening gown standing in the foyer of the dinner hall. I smile and say, "Inauguration?" She smiles and says "yes". Ugh.

On the way to a class earlier, caught up with fellow student. He said he'd just taken a few min. to catch the festivities on TV and said a powerful black minister addressed the crowd. He added that he Bush seems to be reaching out for a much higher purpose than just the US presidency. He said something like Bush basically has a calling from God to bring democracy to the world. :wtf:

This AM, Matt Lauer could hardly contain himself. Excessively giddy.

Last night, Ted Koppel and Cokie Roberts supposedly addressing election fraud. After basically saying exit polls don't count, they went on to trash LBJ, JFK for election theft while totally ignoring election 2000.

I am at a loss for words for the sadness I feel for the stupidity and ignorance that allows people to embrace the man who has stolen office twice.

2. I guarantee this will cheer you up:
Watch C-Span at 8pm EST. You will see that the parade route was dominated by our side in overwhelming force. The booing was nonstop and LOUD. The signs were everywhere. The most fashionable color of the day was safety ORANGE. Bushit (when you could peep into his tank) looked green and frightened.

5. Caught a bit of the debacle this morning
I work for city government and our extremely rightwing city clerk turned on CNN first thing this morning. One of the reporters was droning on endlessly about how the entire world was watching, "all of Europe, our so called allies". I nearly died. That reporter needed to be called onto the carpet immediately. What a hateful, ignorant thing to say. I hope I'm not the only one who caught it.
