What is this 'mission to spread liberty' crap???
I don't recall that being the United States mission.

<snip> WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 - President Bush began his second term today with a declaration that the United States would heed "the calling of our time," a mission to spread liberty to every region of the globe. <snip>

3. it's a doctrine of INTERVENTIONISM disguised as the march of freedom...
That part about US liberty being dependent upon liberty overseas...made me think of US 'libenstraum' from another era not too long ago.

Washington's Farewell Address is something these neocons apparently haven't familiarized themselves with, although they read it to Congress every term...(the Repubs sleep though it).

12. Congress had better start asserting itself with War Powers Act '73
or we're in for even MORE fabrications disguised as pretexts for war. Maybe Iranians can help us out here since they and the North Koreans and Syrians and who knows who else will just tell Bush that they have no desire to attack Americans.

Please rest of the world, these PNACers and neocons are NUTZ. They WANT to use NUKES even if it results in the US being retaliated against.

Congress, are you LISTENING ? DEMS, ASSERT YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE WAR POWERS ACT OF 1973 !!!!!!

No more fabrications, no more lies.

5. "spreading liberty" is just another phrase
for invading your country and sucking your oil fields dry.

10. Theocracy into "democracy"... If a group of people have a deeply
religious and spiritual bent to their essence... I mean, if that is what they live for... if that is the sort of leadership that they want... then who is shrub to say that they need to transform into a democracy? This is some hideous thinking on shrub's part.

Have we invaded any African countries and demanded that they become democracies?? Of course not... where's the shock and awe in that...

These are some sick bastards in control of the baddest military on the planet... "for now".

Pass the DU please... and could I have a couple more cluster bombs, and oh, the white phosphorous... I do so love how it makes my skin have that youthful glow.....

11. Condi used to criticize it as "nation building."
Everybody here, please go out and purchase or borrow from the library a book titled "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins. After you read it, report back to the DU. I promise you, you will never be the same.

Someone please explain to me why John Perkins has not been wiped out so many 'whistleblowers' in the recent past? I really fear for him.

14. HEGEMONY.
Go read Noam Chomsky's latest book about it. It brilliantly takes apart the Bush administration's talking points about "spreading democracy" and "letting freedom ring free."
