I'm bettin' the Freepers who usually watch this show (when they're not glued over at Faux) are wondering, "Whadda mean that I-rack had nothin' ta do wif 9/11? Whaddar these people a-talkin' about?"
Probably the first time some of them have ever heard it.
And then to have PAT BUCHANAN agree with her and Seder on some points regarding imperialism! Whoa, baby!
Never thought I'd say this, but thanks, Joe, for bringing some education to your Freeper audience! :)

on that station after Keith.
I had the sound down, glanced around and saw Jeanene. Thought I should see what she had to say. It's been a coup! I'm so proud to see real progressive voices FIGHTING BACK. Just having her and Seder on the show has allowed that other woman - the Dem on the panel - who's always intelligent, but normally very subdued, to actually get a sane word in, edgewise, as well.
It's been a real treat!

I gotta tell you guys, even though I'm new to posting here but a longtime lurker, that I wish Garafolo wasn't one of our voices. She's just so shrill and arrogant that her message gets lost in attitude. And I know I shouldn't be saying this, but we've been making fun of the Bush daughters all day, so it would make me really happy if Janeane (sp?) would run a comb through her hair once in a while.
Go ahead, flame away.

Unlike other so called beltway libs who argue with right wingers on T.V. programs and then turn around and socialize with those same conservatives. It's all big act for the phony liberals and their neo-con friends.
At least Jeaneane believes in what she is saying. And you won't find her at a Georgetown cocktail party laughing it up with something like Ann Coulter.

Worry about her voice, and her hair at 11:30pm.
If there were other people that could get on that had the same passion as Garafolo, then put them on instead. But she's one of the few that does get on TV that has ANY backbone to stand up against the RW machine. One of the very, very few. It's usually some DLC centrist that agrees far too much with the likes of Kudlow.
I know we live in the TV age, and the look is the most important part. But that might be why our political world is in the craphole that it is.
And I'm glad she's arrogant. We need that.

And I really, honestly believe that her attitude and her bedraggled look distracts people from what could be a powerful message. Of course the appearance shouldn't matter, but, as we all have to admit, it does. And as for the attitude, well, she's always been sarcastic, but if she is trying to win people to our side, it's probably not helping.

And that was my problem with her on Scarborough. She struck me as if she were in full-on drama queen mode, especially when she smacked her hands to her forehead and shook her head so vigorously at the, I assume, inanity, of everyone else there, including Hilary Rosen. I couldn't help but think that no one there or in TV world was going to take her seriously if she didn't look and act the part. Perhaps shallow, but she's not a kid anymore - correct me if I'm wrong, but she's nearing forty and when you act and try to look like a cool teenager at that age, you kind of lose your moral authority.

When Jon Stewart says "Douchebag" (as he refers to Robert Novak), or calls someone an "asshole" on Crossfire, we call him a hero. When Janeane uses almost the exact same language, we wince.

While ridicule of abusive authority figures is affective and necessary, I think schoolyard-style insults of the neo-cons actually trivializes the information that these people are psychopathic war criminals and torturing mass murderers whose henchmen are the mainstream media hacks like Novak.
Imagine the parents of an Iraqi child killed by Rumsfeld's napalm hearing that Rummy is a 'douchebag' as if he had taken the last beer at a frat party.
Doesn't fit the crime, does it? No, it trivializes it and that is how the fascists get away with it in TV Nation where torture is a joke in Jay Leno's monologue.
Some gravitas and respect for the dead is warranted. Hitler was not 'a douchebag,' much worse.

But you do comprehend that Stewart and Garofalo are comedians first, pundits second? They are communicating in the way that they are trained to, in humor. If people are taking them seriously at the wrong times and misunderstanding their message, so much the worse for them.
BTW, no one addressed my original point regarding the sexist double standard being employed here. Stewart is respected, almost deified by the left, and is even being discussed as a replacement for Dan Rather, while using the same words/language that Garofalo uses.
Garofalo is called shrill and makes people uncomfortable with her language, even though they say virtually the same things about the same people. Doesn't anyone find that in the least bit hypocritical?

Tucker Carlson and made Carlson look like the shrill hack that he is. I hear Jeaneane's show all the time and Sam Seder REALLY bugs me when he goes into high-pitched rant mode. Not a gender issue for me.
The status of 'comedian', I believe, must adapt to include the new phenomenon of being one of the few voices now heard on the topic of mass atrocity in a culture where that kind of talk is discouraged.
I did hear Stewart adapt when he went on 'Crossfire' and was deadly serious, much to Tucker Carlson's dismay.
Stewart PROVED he had more character and info on the topic and took 'Crossfire' down with HIS DISPLAY OF DIGNIFIED YET PASSIONATE REASONING FOR HUMANITY AND BALANCE.
Stewart triumphed by calmly imploring them to cut the shit and Tucker went shrill thereby proving Stewart's point that what they did was theater that was "hurting the country."
Yup. That's how it happened. Not a gender issue. A demeanor issue. Proves my point, I think, quite thoroughly.

he is sometimes critical of the President and the GOP, very tough on Armstrong Williams that he actually cancelled the interview, his coverage with Ron Reagan at the Boston convention was really weird. then the other night he interviewing David Frum and basically when the questioning got hard and Frum got annoyed, Joe said "im just playing devils advocate. you know the dems said they supported afghanistan but not iraq but i remember a lot of dems opposed to afghanistan. i bet when we have success in iraq they will be saying the same thing they did about afghanistan." that was the most stupid comment ever.
buchanan is alright for the most part. atleast he has a solid stance, and i feel a lot of republicans in the "heartland" agree with his populist form of conservatism; consersvative on social issues, and immigration, populism on trade, isolationist in foreign policy and certainly dont believe in forcing freedom around the world by force. they are very different from neocons

And, yes, before you tell me, I know...I was, in fact, here when the original thread featuring the moron who couldn't spell "moron" was posted (under another name); I didn't find it funny then, either. Pretty moronic, actually. The only remotely interesting thing about it is its use as an in-group marker, but then I've never been part of an "in-group" either, so the hell with it.
