the rich and the military |
|
the vitriol from some here and elsewhere directed toward people because they are rich and/or from the military is making me angry.
I don't get it and I think it is alienating some people we need the most (elections are expensive and we want people who are not pro war in the military).
Not all rich people oppress or take advantage of the poor. Not all military want to kill innocent civilians. Lighten up already.

(top 1% worldwide, according to the link that was posted here a couple of days ago)I can say that people on this forum are often unfriendly toward the rich, and I think that is a good thing. The rich can buy all the friends they need -- they don't need DU.

is being turned against the rich and they can't even see it. It has to do with group diseases and the really bad apples. If only people could concentrate without beating up on general or easy targets. Most people are not the problem, but most don't see or do anything but participate in their own exploitation.
Then we wouldn't even need the military to clean up our messes.

5. DU is almost all rich or upper middle class |
|
Give me a break. Any hostility towards rich people here is most likely a Kathy-Boudin style fetish for the workers from the trust-funders here on DU.
Nice way to falsely connect anti-military sentiment with defending ourselves in the class war. Of course, the enlisted military is drawn from the working middle class, and almost no trust-funders.
The Republicans love rich people, perhaps this appeal would go over better on FreeRepublic.com?

You'll never see me lash out at our military. I'm the first male in my family not to serve in many generations. My father is in his 28th year of service right now and I was raised at Grissom AFB in Indiana. The fine folks in our military are great citizens. I won't fault them for doing their duty even if I sometimes disagree with the civilian leadership's decision to send them into battle.

I've been on the receiving end of an outpouring of concern and love from my fellow DU'ers. I am a military spouse. My husband is serving in Iraq.....and I don't like what is happening in Iraq. I didn't support the "war" and I am choking from shame over the "peace"
The overwhelming majority of DU'ers have shown nothing but concern for all the people involved.
Goodness, DU'ers are sending care packages to the troops!

I have not seen a anti-military personnel comment in a LONG time. And believe you me, I look and look hard.

beating up on Clark because he is in the military. It's okay to be fodder but not president?
The least militaristic guy in Bush's admin is Powell, the only one with military experience.

11. Who's anti-military...? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 02:12 PM by Cat Atomic
Most of my family and extended family spent time in the military.
I don't understand why you'd lump distrust of the ultra-wealthy together with anti-military feelings, because the two groups literally have NOTHING in common.
They don't even shop at the same stores. :P
