I am confused by the gay warning
at the bottom of the CNN poll on the notorious gayblade, toaster-oven grabbing spongebob squarepants:

Christians issue gay warning on SpongeBob video

What exactly is a gay warning?

(screams and points: oh. my. gaaaawd! girrrrrrlfriend, willya lookit that! It's . . . a cartoon sponge. And look at the way he's dressed! Has he been shopping at Tarzhay? Not a fashion bone in that sponge. Quick, someone call Queer Eye for the Cartoon Sponge. And can you believe where he lives? No taste whatsoever.)

1. It's true: Watching SpongeBob makes you gay
I didn't believe it, so I had to find out for myself.

Now, I just have to break the news to my girlfriend...

4. Maybe we should exchange information
I've watched it and now my husband will no longer have a partner. I was planning on breaking it to him tonight. Perhaps we can arrange an exchange. That way we'll all remain in the DU family.

10. When the recruiters call
I'll tell them not only does my son watch SpongeBob, he carried a SpongeBob pillow and SpongeBob towel set to France with him last spring, has a SpongeBob license frame on his car, SpongeBob seat and steering wheel covers, a SpongeBob coffee mug, a SpongeBob bank, a SpongeBob watch, And an assortment of SpongeBob t-shirts, sleep pants and boxers.

that ought to do it.

funny thing, he was just getting ready to tell me. As for the kids...well, at least now, I won't have to pay for two weddings.

2. I am confused as to why, exactly, this is a news item?
Who gives a flying fuck how some demented uber-rightwing group interprets anything?

13. Well Uhhh,...
because they control everything right now? You should watch and listen to everything they do or say because there is a good chance someone in power will take up the cause. Seriously.

3. Why won't anyone ask these idiots this question?
For a group that believes in a literal translation of the bible, how do you find such symbolism in a cartoon character?

Well, at least 72% seem to have common sense. I'd agree w/ the the 18% if I didn't hate Spongebob so much

14. If the mere suggestion or mention of gayness can convert a child...
... doesn't that simultaneously destroy their claim that absolute heterosexuality is the God-given natural condition of 100.0% of the population?

18. "Gay warning" ...
That's just a politically correct way of announcing a hurricane warning instead of saying, "They can expect a big blow tonight on Fire Island."

(And please don't confuse it with a gay terror alert when the color code is raised to lavender)

19. Attention! Gay warning for penny and five-dollar bill!
A hilarious sendup of the whole "Lincoln was gay" meme can be found here:

http://slate.msn.com/id/2112540/

The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln, the controversial new book by C.A. Tripp, argues that the Great Emancipator was gay. But close readers won't be surprised by this assertion: Incontrovertible evidence of Lincoln's homosexuality is all over his other biographies.

"He was always ... writing poetry." (Lincoln, by David Herbert Donald, Page 33)

"hey noted ... how affectionate he was to kittens and other pets." (Lincoln, Page 55)...

"To settle a dispute over which company should have a certain campground, Lincoln wrestled with Lorenzo D. Thompson. In their first feel-outs of each other, Lincoln called, 'Boys, this is the most powerful man I ever had hold of.' " (Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and the War Years, Page 29)

Once again, do NOT use the five-dollar bill! Use singles instead. Um, wait a minute, didn't Washington wear a wig? Aaaauuuuggghhhh! (splat) (freeper's head explodes)

25. It means the movie turned them on so they want to blame everyone else
They can't deal with their own feelings so they figure if they can attack others, it will somehow give them absolution for what they feel is wrong with them.

homophobia for short
