Gov't advertising during Magic School Bush on Discovery Kids |
|
While my two boys were watching Magic School Bus on Discovery Kids, a "Join the Army" add, showing terrorists/insurgents driving armed pick-up trucks in sniper sights, appeared during the 12:30pm commercial break.
I am totally disgusted by this type of advertising and I am writing a letter to both Discovery Kids and the Army that I don't appreciate them advertising to my two boys, both under the age of 6. with such a graphic image.

4. wait, wasn't that hitler? |
|
"When an opponent declares, "I will not come over to your side," I calmly say, "Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community." Adolf Hitler
bush knows his hitler well, it would seem. not well enough tho.
"I will never allow anyone to divide this people once more into religious camps, each fighting the other" - Adolf Hitler
maybe bush is just stupid.

What are their laws regarding advertising and children's television?
Surely there has to be some kind of infraction here.

5. Believe It Or Not They Pay...Free Speech |
|
The Army is one of the largest media buyers in many small and medium markets...and moreso now than ever before. How do we say "your government dollars at work".
Thing is the Army has always been on TV...the "Be All You Can Be..." campaign in the 80's and 90's. Fortuantely we didn't have a war at that time and it didn't have as much impact as seeing a recruiting spot today.
Personally, I'm more offended if my kids see a commercial glorifying some military action figure or a cartoon chirping the glories of killing over an Army ad.
I haven't seen the ad you're referring to, and I don't condone the military advertising and hustling among our kids (I have a 17-year old...a real touchy issue here), there's the free speech side of things that has to be respected.

showing mommy being hounded by the collection agency - this is during Nick Jr. I guess it doesn't surprise me they're showing army ads for kids not much older than mine. shit.
