This faux inauguration pushed me into being 100 percent anti-war |
|
The thought that * has not learned from his mistakes but plans more of the same, with new keyword, according to Olbermann, *tyranny*, has decided me I can't get behind any of his wars, present or future. If at some point this country is directly attacked and we find it necessary for true defense rather than pre-emption to go after some country, I'll rethink my position.
Although ambivalent, even when reading about the troops who were eager to kill the *insurgents*, watching the part in MM's film with the nutjob singing along to the death song, I thought I should still support the troops.
Well, starting now, I do NOT support the war, am ANTI-WAR and do NOT support the troops. This doesn't mean I'm not pro-life for those individuals who wish they were NOT in the war, but I refuse any more to say I support those who are carrying out an evil agenda.

The inaugural speech pushed you over the edge? I'm interested to learn more about why you changed your view...

3. Sort of an *I've had enough* feeling. It's been growing for awhile |
|
I quit watching corporate media (except Countdown) some time ago and occasionally watch Democracy Now/INN. The propaganda factor was too glaring in the former. I was against the war in Iraq, but also thought it was important to support the troops, many of whom didn't expect to be in Iraq killing civilians and leveling cities.
There was just something about being slapped in the face with Bush's imperialism, the lack of even ONE word about terrorism, or Iraq, but freedom and going after tyrants that suddenly disgusted me beyond tolerance. I was stunned to hear him use *force of freedom* as justification for some vague but ominous plan to meddle in other countries.
Tonight, on Democracy Now, I heard a Bushbot say that he was for World Peace, achieved through getting rid of people who were against... world peace.
I understand that many troops don't want and didn't expect to be there. Probably after the Gulf War, the last war anyone in their young adulthood might remember, it was over so quickly and everyone came home. I remember going to downtown Dallas for the welcome home Gulf War parade. Even so, people make choices in their lives, and one choice some make is to be pacifist or conscientious objectors. I can even see where one might be FOR a just war protecting one's own country but conscientiously against fighting wars for corporate profit, and imperialistic gain.
Seems hypocritical anymore to say that I support troops that are performing actions that I find 100 percent reprehensible and immoral.

4. Those are great thoughts |

Thanks for the perspective.
I was against the Iraq war from the beginning, but I know many others like yourself are just now coming to the conclusions that we were lied to, and that the current direction is wrong.
I've had enough, too.

2. Well its about fucking time. No WMD's!! None!! |
|
As for not supporting the troops, what the hell have most of the US population been doing anyway? A care package does not give a 19 year old back a pair of legs.

5. That's the point, really |
|
I always thought the Iraq war was wrong and have been against it. I never believed the WMD crapola, either. I thought it was bizarre during the Dem Convention (as well as the race) that Kerry's admirable anti-war stance was played down while the Convention tried to outpatriot the Republicans (all while hiding anti-war, gay, and anyone that didn't look *red*).
Even so, I was a fence-sitter about supporting the troops. I, frankly, didn't like Lila whatsername in Moore's movie-I thought, well, what did you expect for your kids, if you encouraged them to join the military? That it would be taking a cruise? That they would pay out money for college without any possible killing repercussions? But so many that were caught as, say National Guard, that expected to guard our homeland and not be used as forced military labor...
I have two cousins that joined up this year, both are in Iraq. They have joined knowing they would be sent there and exterminate people. I can't understand it. They made a choice, for whatever reason.
Bottom line is that to me, after seeing this over-the-top display of might, and knowing what I do about the lies and devastations, it supports BUSH and death to say I support the troops. I don't. I think they're wrong and supporting them supports this evil imperialism. So I'm done.

BUT, as soon as you can't tell the difference between the freedom fighters and the Iraqi Military/Police, its time to go home. Just drop the weapon and get the f*ck out of there, as its no longer worth it. Do you remember when that was?? 2 months ago. Its time to pull out 100% NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
